Chosing a 5830 or...

So I've got $200 to pick a new card. I'm thinking for $189.99 I can get the HIS 5830 on Newegg or for $191.99 I can get the PowerColor one.

Which is better? Or am I off my rocker and should go somewhere else for a card.

p.s. this is because I bought a 4870x2 on hardforum for $160 and it died for no reason today when I tried to turn on starcraft 2 and got blue boxes and it crashed.

460 will give you much more bang for your buck.

But if you really want ATi, those choices work just fine.

gtx460 @ $199.99 is *still* a better buy and card than an hd5830. Plus you can play Starcraft II with anti aliasing NOW with nvidia hardware.

I do game at 1920x1080 though. Won't the sub 1GB VRAM slow me down?

PS: I would go with a reference design from a better board partner than Gigabyte. Should still be $199.

you are not just losing 256mb of vram compared to the 1gb model. you are also losing memory bandwidth and ROP performance. you can get a gtx460 1gb for just over 200 bucks right now on newegg so IMO its silly to go with the 768mb model for 1920.

Yes the 460 is the better buy but there seems to be lots of graphical glitches when forcing AA in SC2. Lots of reports about it.

The difference is more like 10-15% between the 5830 and 1GB version. So you basically get the extra performance for the extra cost. The value is the same when considering a 5830 at $180 and a 1GB 460 at $207. There's a 5-10% performance difference between the 5830 and 768MB 460.
