cingular lets you pick 2 options i think if you have a $30 or higher plan.

i know you can pick

free weekends
free LD
extra 150 anytime
or certain number of text messgaes

thtas how it was when my mom signed up. she put me on family plan and i probably use like 30 minutes a month. what sucks is they take away one of your 2 options if you use family plan. which sucks.

No I am gonna be paying $39.99/mth. However, since they are issuing me a credit in the beginning, I still have to write a check out in the amount of $49.99/mth but really I am only paying $39.99 since I am getting the credit. Just gotta call up tha reps and be a lil aggressive. Thas all!

<<

<< Just got my 600 minutes.....called and got it today! I previously had the 400 min plan, with free unlimited nights & wknds, free nationwide long distance and unlimited mobile to mobile ($9.99/mth) for $49.99/mth. Now I have 600 mins with all of the above and free mobile to mobile for $39.99/mth. You just gotta talk to the reps and work tha magic with them. Not a bad deal I think. Only thing is that they will issue me a lumpsum credit at the beginning of my next cycle ($10 credit x 2 mths = $20) since my contract expires in April so I will still have to write out a check for $49.99/mth. The rep even said that if I were to continue my contract for another year that she would issue me $120.00 credit ($10 x 12 mths) at the beginning of my contract. I did try to get unlimited txt msg but it didn't work...ah well, can't get everything...so I'm paying $2.99 extra for 100 msgs. Regardless, this is a sweet deal.

In the words of the wise man "SWEET!!!!!!!!!" I just got the plan. Asked for the 450min plan with 150 bonus. They let me keep my unlimited text msg/pcs email. Also free long distance and 3500 nights/wkends starting at 9PM. Thank you smartcap and Outkast4eva.

I hate how all the carriers now have nights starting at 9pm instead of at 8pm. I'm on the west coast, but I make a lot of calls to the Central time zone. So when it's 8pm in california, it's already 10pm over in Texas. If I get a different plan that starts at 9pm, then it'll be 11pm in Texas by the time I can call.

I'm currently using Sprint PCS with 8pm night minutes. 350 anytime and 2150 night and weekends for $39.99/month. I'm going to try Valvoline6's plan and I'll post how it goes.

Anyone know any deals for current non-customers? I want to switch, but none of the plans are too appealing unless I get get that extra 150 aytime minutes.

So it seems that some people are calling and getting the CSR to add on minutes to current plans... is this true?

Here's what I have:

Cingular San Diego
1-year contract started July 2000 (currently month-2-month)
The coverage is only average to below-average where I live (Encinitas)
Calling 611 typically takes 10 solid minutes before getting a human.

$44.99 for 300 minutes (Ericsson T28 World)
-Free Voicemail
-Free Text Messaging
-Free Unlimited Long Distance
-Free Unlimited Cingular-2-Cingular Calls

Added a buddy-phone to my plan for $14.99/month (Nokia 8290)
-Free Unlimited calls between phones on plan.
-Shared 300 minutes (this has hurt us in the past... think $200 cell bill... ouch)

So after taxes and fees, I pay roughly $66/month. The majority of our calls are to each other, so we tend to not use our shared minutes. Per phone, we pay $33 for 150 minutes each... but the addons can't be beat! It would be nice to have 150 more!

Any tips on getting the upgrade?

If you're a serious cell phone user who does any sort of travelling, you should steer clear of Cingular. Cingular is ok for the user who never leaves a specific metro area. Cingular might be spending 600 million on upgrades, but by comparison, Verizon spent 8 *billion* dollars on network improvements over the past 2 years. Also, Verizon has signed a 1-way agreement with Sprint, so if you're in an area with no Verizon coverage but there is Sprint coverage available, you'll be able to use the Sprint towers without roaming, assuming you have a tri-mode phone. Don't let a cheap phone and a pile of minutes fool you into thinking you'll actually get to use those minutes on a reliable network

same here, but lately I've been getting a lot of "all systems are busy", I get my voice mail 45 minutes later after the person left it. I live in the Orange, County area. Anybody know if AT&T, or Verizon is any good?

I don't know if this will make you feel any better, but if you call the csr and say that you live in Orange Country and you are getting dropped calls, bad reception, etc... they are authorized to give you a $10 credit on your bill. I called and initially they offered me 3 months with $10 off, but the guy eventually gave me 6 months @ $10 off.

I don't think he said anything about a 2 year contract (he said 2day as in today probably).

But you should make sure because the official plan is this: 450 anytime, LD, and a choice of 3500 N&W OR!!! 150 additional minutes. Or at least last time I checked it was like that.

My Cingular plan is a little different:

600 anytime
3500 N&W minutes
Nationwide LD
1 year contract
$39.99

Got it through a Sam's Club kiosk.

Does Sams Club have different or better plans?

From the one I listed? Yes.

But from what I see on the website, their current plans are in line with those I was quoted.
