Which plan is better: Sprint's Nationwide Long Distance or Cingular Home Calling plan? Any idea guys?

It depends on your area, what city/state are you in?

What's your monthly budget?

my current cell phone contract is under cingular wireless and i do not recommend it. dropped calls, "system busy" garbage. cingular=utter crap. and the customer service seems to be getting worse everyday. for example, i call them about the frequent dropped calls and CR sarcastically says, "what you want us to build more towers?!" HELL YEAH i do!

like Rossman says, it mostly depends on your area. Certain location will get better reception and service with one wireless company over another. Cingular had pretty bad service around LA, lots of dropped calls and busy signals during nights and weekends. This was during their unlimited promotions so I'm not surprised that happened. They've cut it down to 1000 mins or so, I forget, so it might be a little better now. I hear good things about Verizon overall if that's an option for you.

Since most of my friends have Cingular, and since i signed up back when it was PacBell, i've gotten a good deal. Unlimited Nights/Weekend (night starting at 8pm) and Unlimited Mobile-Mobile (which helps out the most cuz all my friends have Cingular).

I've never used up my 400 anytime minutes at all, and overall I'm pleased with Cingular. I used to get a few busy signals about 9 months ago, but lately I rarely get any (maybe one out of 100 calls?) and if I redial once or twice it gets through.

Sprint on the other hand is more expensive, and both of my parents own Sprint phones. The reception quality is MUCH better, voices actually sound like they're talking to you; much better than on a regular corded phone at home or Cingular's cell phones, but this added bonus really isn't that practical. Check around your local area and ask around. Or you can go to a Cell Phone store that has both Cingular and Sprint plans offered and ask a few people.

oh yeah i live in coastal orange county btw, if that's close to where you live, then the aforementioned about cingular probably is of some worth to you

I got cingular wireless and I gotta say that their service stinks... I live in souther california and I spend most of my time redialing calls because I get the "System Busy" message... Only positive thing I can see about cingular is that you can change phones easily if you dont like the one they give you

You guys know a site where you can get cell phone data? I need to know the differences in WA area, especially the area around Microsoft.

I just paid $175 to break my service contract with Cingular. The service was aweful. Most of my wireless communication was done through my voice mail b/c I could only get service in select areas. I switched to Verizon and I am very happy with it.

I travel a lot on the eastern side of the US, can't say I've ever been dissappointed with my sprint phone.

As far as service... well, once their tower broke thats right near my house for about a week. Any call I made from home was on analog roam, I called to complain and they gave me credits against the roam charge since it was their hardware failure causing my problem.

Oh and the wireless web feature works just about everywhere the phone does (at least in bigger cities) which is really handy.

So it seems like Sprint is the better of the two. I have Verizon and I'm very happy with the service here in the CA bay area.

I had Cingular for a year, then switched to Sprint. Both gave me good reception, but my calls seem clearer with Sprint. It could be because I have a new phone that isn't a complete POS. Occasionally Cingular would fail to complete calls, sometimes with "too busy" errors and sometimes it would just never dial. I have yet to encounter any of that with Sprint. Depending on the cost difference I would recommend Sprint.

Been with Sprint for about 2 years now in the LA area and I can't complain. I'm waiting for the 3G service to come out so I can have an excuse to get a new phone. The one bad thing about Sprint is the lack of incentives towards getting a new phone.

according to my friends and I here in the Seattle area (UW mainly) we rank the services like this: Cingular and Voicestream tie for best in terms of reception and coverage (cingular is up there now only because they can roam off of AT&T's towers.) Verizon is second, AT&T is third, and sprint was a dead last. We did not rate nextel because none of us have it.

The two of my friends that have sprint HATE it due to the fact that the only thing their phones do reliably is surf the web, don't even think about calling with them... This could just be a seattle area thing, but I would not reccomend sprint up here. I would say go for Voicestream, Cingular, or Verizon in Western Washington, but as for a comparison website... could not find one.

Sprint PCS is definately better than Cingular. I have sprint and my friend has cingular and his phone connection is awful, he always gets cut off and his calls are rarely clear. With sprint i have only been cut off like twice and my class are clear. So don't buy a phone with cingular plan go with sprint

If you don't care too much about having the coolest phone, like normal people and people who work in the field who put a priority on being able to make that call from as many places as possible, you'll probably appriciate Verizon or AT&T TDMA. Verizon actually has you double or triple-covered with America's Choice, and the local plans if I'm not mistaken, because their roaming agreements allow you to roam on Sprint PCS and Alltel for free. Short hold times to speak to a human customer service representative too.

Just got cingular it is pretty good in MD, but in Delaware where I live and go to school its excellent. around here (DE and Philadelphia) Cingular is King.

Verizon IMO has the best coverage nationwide tho

Does anybody know if the Cingular service is any good in the Portland, OR area? I almost signed up with them a few weeks ago but I'm lazy and forgetful.
