I don't usually pay attention to my CC, even though I use it for everything (I know, I'm stupid) but I happened to check it out just now and noticed a bar I went to charged me 2x for the same bill, bastards.

It is a Citi card and I was wondering what the simplest dispute method is. I know Discover has an online method but couldn't seem to find something like that with Citi. Any options other than calling? Thanks.

Call the bar first. Might save you some headaches....

yeah I suppose the bar should be the first call.

And too chickenshit to call? How does that even make sense? I just don't like dealing with Bob "Smith" Patel over the phone.

Citibank's customer service is the 7th ring of hell fyi, and yes, you have to call for this unfortunately.

Are you 2 stupid or something? I have never seen people get worked up over a question like this.

Yeah that's why discover's was cool. Just click "Dispute Charge" and they let you know what happens.

I always get American

The only problem I had was with Chase, and they just refunded me the amount until it was cleared. Although the people doing fraud stuff are stupid. You have to fill out forms and waste time explaining to them over and over. If they would just use their brain sometimes, they could instantly see the problem.

Yeah this one shouldn't require too much thinking on their end. $80 charge 2x on the same day from the same place.

I'd have that happen twice. The bar set it straight.

Call them first imo.

I'm pretty sure you can do that on citicards.com.

I've done it in the past. For people like you who are too chickenshit to call, you can just do it all over the internets.

I've called citicard for disputes twice, was pretty easy imo.

they just ask you about your purchase and try to sell you some card services, but not to much hassle.

Didn't ask me for any proof or anything either. Good luck.

First off call the bar and tell them of the issue. Better yet, go visit them with your statement in hand and see what they have to say.

If they take care of you, problem solved AND the bar is aware of why the money is going back to your direction. I'm sure they get some idiot once a week that tries to reverse a charge because they don't remember drinking that much or someone else charged a drink or two to their account and they're probably used to fighting that stuff. It's a bit more apparent with a double charge and you shouldn't have any problem with them refunding you.

If they deny it and won't help you out, THEN dispute it.

A florist charged me twice for flowers one time. I called them and the lady immediately joked "We double charge all our customers now" in a dead serious voice. Caught me off guard, but she was very accommodating after that.

Well my GF had some fraudulent charges a few months ago. I don't know all the details because its was NOT a pleasant experience and any time she was on the phone I made it a point to be else where and was careful not to bring up the subject (because I prefer my balls attached).

The things I know:

She has had the account since 01.

Didn't know anything was wrong THEY called her to ask her about charges (~$500 Euros in the UK).

During that call they said they stopped all further transactions.

She asked if there was anything she needed to do to which they responded no they would take care of it.

Few weeks later she gets her statement with the charges, not sure what she is supposed to do (ie, pay everything\only valid charges) she calls them.

The service rep mentioned that there was no suspension on the account and that if the charges were in fact fraudulent she needed to circle them on her statement and write a letter saying that she didn't make these charges and send it in.

The next statement comes and the charges are still on the account, now shes pissed and calls again gets told that she needs to speak with the investigator assigned to the case, who was not in. They also could not give her the investigators # or even their name.

She calls again a few times over the next few weeks, and the same story investigators not in and cannot give name or #.

A week or so later she gets a message from Citi saying they need to talk to her about her account. Obviously, she was happy that she might actually get some answers. Nope, it was them saying that her account is now delinquent and that its going to be sent to collections soon.

Obviously, she goes supernova on this person who then transfers her to some other person.

This person says that originally when she sent the letter there is some form that you are supposed to use to create said letter. She asked them what the form had that her letter did not contain (ie account info, bad charges, date and signature). The person says nothing and after a hour or so got the charges cleared.

So the ~$500 is gone which shes happy about but there is still like $40 in fees (foreign currency, late) that are tied to this account that have not been waved yet.

Any way, the whole experience was not pleasant for me let alone her. If you have the chance to have the bar retract the charge I HIGHLY recommend it.

/me hugs AMEX.

Considering you made the thread I will have to say the onus is on you.

That discover click to dispute thing can't be that fool proof...any charge can be disputed technically...they are going to need to know WHY.

With AMEX when you click the dispute charge button it takes you to a little form where you describe what happened. I had it happen to me a few years ago (~$35 charge at a service station when both myself and my car were on Oahu) clicked the button told them that I wasnt in Florida for the charge. A week later I get a letter saying they are investigating, and a week after that I got another letter saying they dropped the charge. No phone call no letter needed.
