It's really not. If you've actually bought any high end audio stuff you'd know that MSRP or Retail price is jacked up. You can easily negotiate 20% if not more at a good dealer.

I wouldnt say 20% is the norm. I got 10% off an Arcam AVR300 ($1800 from $2k) which i considered a fair price from an authorised dealer.

I do like record players though, i had a rega 3 back in the UK which was awesome for the money, even my wife loved the sound compared to CD

I still have my Snoopy record player from the 70's if I want to play my old records, $10,000 is a little steep methinks.

It depends. With Arcam you might only get 10% off, but if you get some of the more expensive stuff with really crazy markups you can get 20 or even 30% off. It really depends.

As for vinyl, I can tell you that a $300 Music Hall MMF-2.1 sounds betters to me than my $5000 Sony SCD-1 SACD player (which by the way I got for almost 50% off).

A lot of high end dealers have a few customers they offer incredible deals to, but quietly. Things like half price or dealer cost so that the dealer doesn't have to sit on a large initial order to bring in some new brand etc.
