I have an asus rt-n16 running ddwrt which has been giving me some wifi trouble. I ordered a ubiquiti unifi LR to be an AP. I'd like to use the router as the dchp server. My building is old and has unusual outlet locations, and I've come up with a few options to setting up my new network. The usual set up would be: cable modem -> router (wifi off) -> unifi. The router would be my dhcp server and everything would practically work the same except the unifi is the AP.
For those who have a unifi, can I do the following: cable modem -> router (client bridge of unifi) <--> unifi. The unifi would be powered but no network connection (just the POE cable).
And even more crazily, could I do: cable modem -> unifi <--> router (client bridge), but have the wan ip assigned to the router and still use the router as the dhcp server.
I have no problem doing wired connections for initial setup, I'd like to just use the router in a different location when everything is in steady state, and running cables is a big pain in the butt in my current place.
