CM Stacker Overkill

I am struggling to find a case I like. The CoolerMaster Stacker looks pretty nice, but I wonder if it is overkill for a home system that is likely to have only 2 HDs and 2 optical drives. I know it will be large.

The Lian Li PC-60 Plus and the Antec 180 look nice, but I am ready to build and who knows how soon they will actually be available.

I am thinking with about 5 fans, I could drop the temperature near freezing. Not really, of course. It just seems that 3/4 of the case will be empty.

Thx It's just an all stock Antec SLB. I bought it for $40 bucks at CUSA same as the deal this week. The only thing I did was swap the front and rear 120mm fans after a small solder job (the front fan is 3 pin, the rear is 4 pin). I like the LED one in the rear better. For the money, I am quite pleased. Quiet and killer airflow...

There simply is no rival to this case in its' price range. It is so flexible in what it can do, you'll have a lot of options as you go. It will be the only case you will need for a very long time. Check Zipzoomfly for great Stacker prices.

Or get yourself a $40 Super Lanboy from CompUSA this week until you want bigger. The SLB is premium for the money,

Haha, the pictures of the stacker in the link you posted belong to me. Those are some of the older pics of my stacker actually, I have posted a few newer ones later on in the forum.

I'm waiting for several month after Smithfield and a wide availability of SATA2-capable mobo's and disks before my next build. I will probably use a recycled full-tower case from the late 90's for the project, after a day's worth of dremeled modifications.

That being said, unless there are is a significant movement toward BTX form-factor limiting my motherboard choices, I will design the interior of my used case as near as possible to the Stacker's.

The other thing about the Stacker is that it is BTX convertible, fits Coolermaster's barrel-fan, and it's roomy. I tried mid-tower cases for five years, and I've decided that it's easier to cool a full-tower. This is important to me, since the TDP specs on the new processors are moving up for Intel, although they are dropping a bit for AMD. But at least with a full-tower case, you have more options in terms of interior-real-estate for water-cooling apparatus.

In the stricktest sense, no. Homebrew computing is a hobby. As such, there's no rule-book that says "this or that is too much." If you like the looks and utility of the case, go ahead and buy it. Anyone who has the temerity to say it's too much doesn't have their head on straight and shouldn't be listened to anyway.

I also have the Cooler Master Stacker and I can say it r0x0r5 j00 b0x0r5. I only have two HDDs (albeit big ones ), one DVD-/+RW (NEC 3500A) and a floppy drive.

This case is just way super for installing motherboards and PSU's, as the whole thing is quite roomy, unlike my old Compaq PC. *shudders* >_o

Moreover, all components run very cool, especially my CPU. It's an Athlon64 3500+ and has a Zalman 7000B-AlCu HSF and runs at 28 - 30 degrees C idle and never more than 44 degrees C on 100% load.

That may be quite technical, but basically it just comes to this that Cooler Master Stacker is absolutely the best case ever made, and it's even BTX compatible (not like I'll use that, but still). I love it. <3

It's overkill no doubt, but a cool case.

You don't like the looks of any of the other CM cases?

Praetorian, and Centurion 5 come to mind when thinking of the stacker.

Mine will be here on Thursday!

I was looking for a big case with plenty of cooling and one that was BTX-like.
I was going to get the Lian-li PC-V1100B but the cooling is inadequate.

the staker is an awsome case i would like to get it. the cooling must b good since it is open airflow. and the option of switching to btx and able to put 2 psu it is nice. and it is roomy. i was looking at this site where the case is sooo sturdy that a person (ADULT about 170lbs) rode the case like a bull down the block.

You convinced me. I went with the Black CM Stacker. It willl be big, but it has everything I need and pretty much what I want, and then some. It will be here next week. I really like the three fan design (front, rear and top) with another fan for the HD cage.
