I gave swiftkey x a try, but i really didnt like the layout. im using one called tablet keyboard free right now, and the layout is pretty much exactly what i wanted; offset rows with a dedicated number row. only complains are that it does have any key press feedback (audio or heptic) and theres no long press functionality.

is there a way to always request the desktop site with the browser? i tried changing the ua string, but that seems to get reset every time the browser closes.

Is HP still actively making TouchPads? I thought they'd stopped, all of them were pulled from store shelves or sold. But I've been to two local BBs and they've got TPs on display. At full retail pricing though.

So what the battery life like when streaming flash videos in cyanogenmod? I watched about 1.5 hours of TV (4 mbps 720p, flash in the web browser) last night and it used about 15% of the battery under webOS.

HP stopped making TouchPads months ago. I have no idea why your BBs would still have any in stock, or why they'd be charging anything besides $99/$149 for them.

Hardware video decoding is currently not working. So the battery life situation for videos is not good (and you'd never be able to play a 720P video).

Thats what I thought. Earlier, these same BBs pulled on the display TPs and were refusing to sell any stock they actually had.

Not sure if they are still making them or not....The new thing for HP is they are offering then only as a bundle witha HP laptop or desktop computor. The 32gb for the firesale price tho. Guess they can make a couple bucks and increase sales this way.

The Touchpad is capable of decoding 720p h.264 up to high profile 3.1 in Software Mode (non-accelerated) using MX Player smoothly as long as its in a mp4 or m4v format.

It'll still take a heavy hit on battery though.

Is there any way of getting rid of webOS and just having android?

I've only got the 16gb version and as I hardly ever boot into webOS I'd like to reclaim as much storage space as possible.

Nope, all android installs currently keep webos intact.

So decided to try this out today. Most things are good, like the browser, still haven't installed gapps. Was able to get it working with exchange eventually, and but I had to fool with it.

My big issue right now is that the kindle app for Android tablets blows. The webos app is great, but two page landscape layout with page turning animation serif or sans serif font, and the ability to adjust the base brightness with auto adjust on. It has been the biggest use of my TP with over 50 books read since August.

The app for Android... is sad. No sans serif font, cannot adjust brightness with auto adjust on (maybe an ICS limitation) but the worst, apparently no two page layout in landscape, just wide paragraphs.

I'm hoping someone can tell me I'm doing it wrong, because as of right now I don't see any advantages to ICS over webos and a huge downside.

I don't use the Android Kindle app so I can't help you there. Maybe you should keep using the WebOS Kindle app? You can uninstall CM9. It's not permanent install.

If you don't see any then go back to webOS. Me, I haven't booted into webOS since I first installed CM7.

Since using it as an ereader seems to be your primary use and you prefer the webOS Kindle app (did they ever release an official version?), it would make sense to stick with webOS.

I just flashed to the alpha0 build, then the alpha0.5 build and for never ever flashing a custom rom in my years of Android use, it's pretty easy.

Question for those of you more knowledgeable than myself:

Whenever I need to flash something with CWM, do I have to boot back into WebOS to have USB access (to place the file in the base directory), or can I do that while in Android? ICS with it's weird media protocols, it isn't showing up in my devices.

*Awesome, the Touchstone still works and it automatically brings up the clock.

To get your Windows PC to see your ICS Touchpad, go into Settings/Storage on your ICS Touchpad. You see the 3 dots in the top right corner? It's the menu button on ICS. Click on the 3 dots and you should see "USB computer connection". Click on USB computer connection and you should see "Media device (MTP)." Toggle that on and it will allow your computer to see your Touchpad and you can transfer files back and forth. Hope this helps.

Got it, thanks. I didn't really do enough digging around yet I'm sure I would of found it eventually

I'm trying to convince my self to go to sleep because I need to wake up at 5:30. Though, we can see how well that is working, since I'm still here.

An amusing story about how popular Cryogenmod is becoming....

I just got a call from my father in law asking me to install "That Android project" on his HP Touchpad. I don't know who told them about it, but he's in his 60's and barely has enough computer skills to check his own e-mail without help.

I told him that he should probably wait for a final release version... I certainly don't want to void his HP warranty and make myself the sole support contact for an OS that's still in Alpha!

I got ICS installed on my TouchPad, and I think my only complaint is that the fix for the sensitivity seems to make it not sensitive enough. Was that patch really only meant for Alpha 0 and not Alpha 0.5? The guide that I saw still mentioned it for 0.5.

Just put.6 on. You can do it without hooking up to a computer. Just download it and then reboot to the clockwork mod. There's an option to update from zip.
