don't diss it till it comes out.. sometimes games get huge amounts of hype and end up being really bad.. and vice versa.

Well the Call of Duty 4 engine is excellent and this is the Pacific theater...

But what would you have them do? Another Modern warfare? As far as I can imagine, FPS scenario cards have all be played

How about the mother of all wars? Grenada, 1983. Call of Duty: Operation Urgent Fury.

It kinda sucks that is WWII yet again and given Treyarch's record with cod3 I do not have high hopes. I am however looking forward to COD6 which is back to activision/infinity ward and set in the future instead of this dumb WWII stuff.

Agreed. How many WWII games do we need? I mean, you'd think there had never been any other wars. Uhh... WWI anyone? Vietnam? Napoleans Eastern campaign? I didn't watch my buddies die face down in the mud in Nam so we could play yet another WWII FPS.

That said, this game will sell gazillions of copies because people never tire of the same old sh#t..

If it's like CoD 2 I'm sold since I thought the second one was the best in the series.

Treyarch is not that bad, didn't they develop the Call of Duty (1) expansion? That was pretty great.

The odd thing about this game is that it's not called Call of Duty 5, it seems that if the game tanks they can just say it's a spinoff or something and then release the real Call of Duty 5, if World at War doesn't tank, then they can just call THAT game Call of Duty 6

There's a lot of stuff that could be done with the FPS genre, developers are not creative enough, or maybe they are but they just wanna make money by doing the tried and true.

I'm still looking forward to it, it may be overdone but I still like WWII.

WWI would be boring, most of it was a stalemate and would involve nothing more than hiding in trenches until the tank was invented.

Vietnam would be interesting, primarily because of the terrain and I'd be able to use thumper again.

There have been extremely few games covering the Jap portion of the war that wasn't pretty much naval only, so I'm happy to have this.

No, Gray Matter did that, the same guys that did RTCW SP.

I'd like to see more Western FPS games, but then you run into the problem of only having a few types of weapons. Pistol, rifle, shotgun, knives, maybe some dynamite. you could have different models of each but that would be kind of boring.

Now, if the story and gameplay was kick-ass the small amount of weapons might be able to be overlooked.

Anything older than the later 1800s isn't going to work so well in a FPS type of game. Single shot guns and extremely slow reloads are the main issues here.

I'm sure there have to be some sort of commando type raids and stuff that happened in WWI. Use that as the story or make up a story.

Sure, there was. However, infiltration assault was used mainly by the Germans during WWI. There is some inherent bias against letting you play as the Germans in games. Perhaps a WWI title that lets you play as Germans would be not too controversial though.

As for glut of WWII titles, I think it's due to the fact that it's the last big, "ideologically pure" war that the US fought. Thus, a compulsion to revisit it constantly to feel good about ourselves.

BTW, there is a FPS set in the West. It's Call of Juarez.

Dont forget week long artillery barrages while you go under for tea to wait it out.

Not to mention the military commanders that did not understand modern technology and ordered mass rushes upon machine gun nests across a field filled with infantry traps.

i'd love to play a good ww1 game!

BF1918 was a really cool mod for BF1942. They had quite a few maps, some with infantry, some with tanks. There was one with a yellowish fog where you ran around with gas masks. That mod was a ton of fun. It didn't really take off in the states, but it had a pretty decent following in europe.

Forget WWI, I want Call of Duty: Revolutionary War. It would go something along the lines of: fire weapon, wait 2 minutes while you reload, fire weapon...

The American Civil war could be very interesting, if done correctly. Lots of single shot muskets, sure, but multishot weapons were available to those who could afford them - or those who could kill the guys who could afford them. Lots of interesting possibilities for stages too, as it was fought across a very broad and varied theater. Especially if your designers have some imagination - imagine, for example, being a member of a negro regiment, fighting on the front when the rest of the army begins to rout or surrender. Certainly, you can't surrender - they're gonna shoot you cause you're a negro. Trying to find a way out while the rest of the army is falling back could be quite interesting.
