I am going to be attending college this fall and still havent decided on a major or if I want to minor in something as well. Im sure I want to do something in the business field but cannot decide between majoring in IS Management, Accounting, Business Administration, or Administrative Office Mang. Im not sure which one of these I want to persue, though I could vision myself in any of them. Any thoughts? Also would a BS in any of these majors be sufficent or are these common degrees that everyone has?

You've got a little time to take different classes before you have to make a decision. You'll have advisors there too who can help you as well.

Take a few different courses & see what you like best. Also - check minor requirements & see if any overlap with your major requirements.

You might be able get your minor for very few classes outside of your major requirements.

Which college will you be going to? Maybe they have summer programs that help you discover what you like to major in.

accounting, because its at least a real degree and not all BS like business admin. IS is a really crowded field and the people who graduate from that are generally ill-equipped for it.

Funny story about how I picked my major. A buddy of mine asked me what I planned to study when I was a sophomore in highschool. He said, "You like chemistry, so are you thinking about Chemical Engineering?" I thought a second and said yes. I hadn't even considered chemical engineering until he suggested it. I'm now a grad student working on my PhD in ChemE.

Moral of the story: Don't spend too much time worrying about what major you want to study. Try to find something you either like or think you can tolerate. Afterall, your major leads to your job, and a job is not your life.

Thanks for the advice, I checked and if I majored in Accounting about 80% the of classes I'd need for a minor in Busi. Admin. I would b taking already. Is this a wise option?

don't do accounting just because someone else tells you it's not a "BS degree" (no offense elFenix). Make sure it is actually somethine you will want to do. My dad is an accountant and I work in equity research and I can tell you for a fact that I would never want to be an accountant. Too much bs busy-work.

Business Admin might be a "BS degree", but if you like finance and want to work on wall st. or something, then it is a good choice.

If you have no idea, go open-option business (since it sounds like everything you want is business related). Don't tie yourself to a particular major until you know that's what you want to do.

What I originally wanted to do was IS and do something like networks but I've read too much about these people being unemployed and not being able to find a job so I'm trying to find a similar field or major that would allow me to do a wide range of jobs.

Make sure you get an internship as soon as possible to get a better idea of what it is like working in a business atmosphere.

BTW, if you stay in business plan on getting a MBA. The people who run my company all have MBAs.

Not always the case. For the two schools I applied to its a lot harder to get in if you don't declare on your app. If you do get in undeclared you must declare after your first year and switching majors is not easy.
