I have degrees from a couple of different schools, OU being one of them. As for what else is good there... The academic programs all seem to be good from what I saw. Of course there are some that are better than others, OU's Law & Medical schools are excellent, but on the whole they are all very good. In my time there OU seemed to really have a sense of community and I never had the feeling that it was just a bunch of random students attending classes. Professors really seemed to care, other students were always friendly and willing to help, and the whole place just has a really cool vibe. Kinda hard to describe really. I would recommend that you give them a call and at least get some info from them.

Sounds great. I will definitely look into it. How is the surrounding area? Geographically?

yea, it looks like it's just a little over your budget for out of state. if you can get in-state tho, that would be a nice deal. we have a very good bioengineering dept, genome sciences, etc. *LOTS* of money being poured in by paul allen into building new research facilities for bio-stuff.

That part of the state is a little boring. It's what everyone thinks of when they think of Oklahoma. Pretty flat..... Norman is a nice town and of course has all the usual college town type places. Oklahoma City is just minutes away and there is always something going on there. Plus with Oklahoma being a somewhat small state you can always drive to the more interesting side of the state, around Tulsa, in just a couple of hours. Just south of Norman is an area called the Arbuckle Mountains. Not anything huge...but pretty interesting from a geological standpoint.....

Aye, it definitley is over budget, but I know what you mean. Id love to go there, if there was some way I could get in state. I am not sure if there are any workarounds.

Typical Californian... j/k, my Grandma and some other extended family live in Cali. There is a reason they call Montana the last best place. Its so nice not having to deal with horrible traffic in the morning, major crime, etc. All the major cities have cable/DSL just as fast as a big city, if not faster due to fewer users on each circuit. I can (when i'm home) actually see a sky full of stars at night, definately can't while i'm at school in Atlanta. Other benefits are low cost of living, no sales tax, etc etc.
Moving to Montana soon, gonna be a Dental Floss Tycoon. Just me and my Pygmy Pony!

CAL POLY! Where I am now, especially good if you want to go in the engineering direction. There are alot of Bio majors here but I know nothing of its reputation. You just can't go wrong in San Luis.

When you include out of state tution, room and board, I don't think that any of the listed colleges will be less then 15k.

OU is 300 something per hour. You'll probably take 30 hours a year, which comes out to $10k. Add in room and board, and you're over 15k. UCLA is something like 25k for out of state. Don't get started on cal tech, harvey mudd, stanford, claremont mckenna

Another vote for UW. Great college.... even though I'm a huskey, I'd say WSU too, they are a good school.

Go UW!

Yeah, I realized that. Only a few are under 15k. My parents won't pay for the plane tickets anyway, so it doesn't matter.

Having gone to UW I can say that it was a great school and I really learned a lot there. Seattle is a great town. Now going to UH I can say that the school isn't nearly the acedemic level of UW for most things, but living out in Hawaii sure is nice again.

OU sucks.

Sorry, the only reason that national merit people come there is because they throw money at them. They offered to pay me my entire tuition, room, board, and fees, for six years. That is why they have national merit residents.

But their programs still suck. They are not ranked nationally. I am an EE at Texas, and I had a good friend that went EE at OU. His cirriculum is absolutely pathetic. He was a sophomore and didn't know the most basic circuit analysis methods, never will have an embedded system course, and on the whole, the program seemed really sh!tty.

Norman is a pathetic town. It is in the absolute middle of fvcking nowhere. Yea, you are 20 minutes out of OK City, so what? Is it worth a drive to do just about anything? And even their parties are sub-par too. Bowling and pinnacle are typical weekend activities.

And don't even forget to mention the 3.2 beer law.

Yea, OU Sucks

I would take people's opinions here lightly because they're all going to say where they went to is the best. Research on your own and find out what's the best for you.

You shouldn't base their entire program on one person, especially if he's a sophomore. It seems a lot of universities don't actually start teaching real stuff until the junior year. Each EE program can be different, too. You can have completely different EE fields from one program to the next. Some also stress a huge difference between computer and electrical engineering.
