Comcast 8300HD DVR

I'm contemplating switching from TiVo to Comcast DVR. Essentially, I want to move to HD and the TiVo HD box is obscenely expensive. Comcast offers service for $8 a month, versus $13 for Tivo - and they give you the DVR and Tuner for free - only a $5 a month lease charge. So the two services cost the same - essentially - and there is no need to drop $800 up front.

The one thing that I really like about Tivo is the ability to transfer the recordings to any computer on a wireless network and convert the recordings to watch on our portable meida players - the wife's iPod and my Zen W. We travel quite a bit - so this is important to us.

I've been researching the Scientific Atlanta 8300 HD (the cable box/DVR) that Comcast uses here, and I can't find anywhere that says it supports wireless transfers. It does support networking up to 4 8300 HD's together - but I don't want/need that. It has two firewire ports on the back, an e-sata port, and one usb on the front. No mention of whether or not it can be configured to work on a wireless network. Does anyone know? If so, can someone point me to instructions for how to do it and which wireless adapters are supported?

I realize I could build my own DVR PC - but from the research I've done, HD recording cards/tuners that are available right now are still pretty buggy and not user friendly (this is important due to the wife factor). Plus, there is the cost associated with building one.

I have one of these boxes, and it is the biggest piece of crap. Most of the crappiness is because of the UI though. It's atrocious.

Friend has 4 of those units.

2 of them have already been replaced. There are lockup issues and terrible bugs.
Overall it sounds like a real pos.

Why do you think it would support wireless anything?

Simple answer: Because some schmuck at Comcast said it does.

Complex answer: Thought it might because of the one USB port.

Solution: Look at DirecTV.
