My comcast is doing the same thing. The tech came out and changed all the coax cable heads and I also bought another moto surfboard 5100 off ebay. The connection still randomly drops.

Where are you located? I think they're having trouble everywhere with the speed tweaks they're doing everywhere.

BTW... I called them again last night and they're sending a senior tech to my house this Friday. If he doesn't fix it, I'm going to install a signal booster myself. If that doesn't work, I guess I'll go DSL

The tech came over today - he did seem like he knew more about what he was doing. He thinks it has to do with the broadcast signal, something about the low-band portions of the signal seemed weak - he's going to report it. He also replaced some more cable heads (you'd think by the 3rd tech, they would've changed them all already. I'm still getting drops when download large items now, I'm picking up a booster tonight to see if it helps.

My Comcast Problems

The tech boosted my signal several weeks ago and that seemed to work for a while. Now, it's down usually most of the day.

I honestly don't think replacing the service cable will fix my problem. I think I'm about to switch to Bellsouth DSL.

Just read your thread. That sucks, I hope the booster will work for me. Now I'm thinking I really don't want DSL because of the contract. Maybe I'll use dialup? :disgust:
Almost unthinkable... bleh

Hope y'all are getting credited for the service loss. Make sure they don't charge you.

Im in Spokane, WA. The 2nd tech came out today and couldn't find anything wrong. The connection was working great while the tech was here.. They are going to send someone out here to put a diagnostic device onto the cable line outside so they can get some readings when my connection goes offline.

Par for the course. Well, not quite yet. To date, we've had 7 techs come out. Still have the same problems every time. 4 modems later you'd think the problem would be fixed.

I had similiar trouble when Comcast took over Road Runner here in Jacksonville Florida. I had intermittent connection issues particularly between the hours of 10pm - 10am but sometimes during other times as well. It would be worse when it was cold and better when it was hot. At the time there was no true competitor in my area. I had problems for 28 months and 30+ technicians before DSL was finally available. I will never go back.

One tech would say that there wasnt a problem. Another would say that my signal was strange but that he would have to uplog the problem to the people that work on the lines and that there is no guarantee they would change or do anything and no real way for him to guarantee that I would be informed of the resolution. After a week when nothing got better I called and they told me that I hadnt called tech support for four months and I would have to start a new problem ticket on the issue which meant having a tech come out (later they got into a lot of trouble with the city because it was discovered that they were purging complaints.) This tech never showed up - I skipped class and waited for five hours! They gave me like a 20$ credit to my account for the trouble and sent someone to my house. This guy told me that he didnt find any problems and that the only thing they could do is change the cable from my house to the pole.... the horror goes on and on.

woot, verison for me
6 disconects
2 technicians
MANY phone calls, 1 on-phone technician that actually put me on hold until he pressed a button on the phone where i could hear what he says. he was like talking with his friend saying something like, "yea i'm just waiting for this loser to hang up so i can go eat lunch". then he hung up.....
and now connection doesn't disconnect, but every once inawhile the speed slows drastically

I'm about 30 miles north of Knoxville, TN and I feel your pain. Packet loss, pages loading slower than they should and sometimes just timing out without loading at all. I've been reporting trouble since the end of May. And get this, both telephone tech support and a visiting technician have seen problems and still haven't done anything about it! When I asked telephone tech support to escalate me to tier 2.5 and the technician who visited to get a line specialist to look at my problem, both acted kind of funny and didn't say no, but didn't say yes either. It appears that my problem is with packet loss according to telephone tech support - who also said the problem was DEFINITELY outside of my house (of course, I already knew this). I've also noticed that the time of day does seem to be relevant to speed also - if I remember correctly, cable can bottleneck, right?

Last week I talked to a HSI supervisor in Knoxville. He said he would have his network specialists look into the problem and he would email me copies of his correspondence with them to keep me informed. Guess what? That's right - I have yet to receive the first email. The only action taken was to have a supervisor at the local office in my town to call me to follow up. The first follow up call was right after I talked to the supervisor in Knoxville. I explained my problem and the history of my contacting Comcast. He said he would look into the issue. The next call was last Friday at 4:50 pm, 10 MINUTES before the office closed for the weekend! I wasn't home at the time. He left a message on my answering machine that ended with, "we will be here until 5 pm today". Outrageous! (and laughable)....sheesh

One other thing. Not long after first reporting my problem, I had a Comcast technician tell me to use Testmy.net for doing speed tests on my connection. Funny, but Testmy.net always gives me 4MB no matter when I run a test. BUT, when I use the speed test sites (it doesn't matter which) on DSLreports, I always get a slower speed that matches the actual performance of my connection. Kind of fishy if you ask me. Of course, I consider the DSLreports tests to be more reliable.
