It's kind of funny that the OP removed his personal info but left the ZIP+4.

It's a way to limit traffic based on actual content and not just ports. If they turned this on things like bit torrent would work but at speeds like 1bps - so slow that folks would not bother.

And then more people will use end-to-end encryption of the packets, to skirt traffic shaping.

Your average Joe Blow user will not do this. That's all the MPAA, RIAA, etc care about. What Joe Blow can do.

Because alot of things are legit to DL.

There is a debate with TV shows, but it is considered the same as using a VCR pretty much, so you don't here about problms there.

FREE music from e-tree

I'm sure more examples exist.

It has nothing to do with legitimacy of a program or whatever. If the majority abuse it, they pull it. This is why we have "idiot proofing" with everything, software activation which penalizes legitimate users not the scofflaws. The pranksters writing viruses are going to bring upon a digital lockdown/licensing/SS DRM/ whatever makes it a pita to use format.

If he has a legit cd-key like he says he does, then there is nothing wrong with downloading the game software. I've had to download Quake 4 and Battlefield 2 from Torrent sites when my cd's (factory-retail cd's) don't work for installation (iD made a bad batch of Quake IV CD3's, and my BF2 cd was too scratched), so these torrents act as a source of backup, which is why these sites are still legal.

For Software Copyrights check out Link - "Can I backup my computer software?
Yes, under certain conditions as provided by section 117 of the Copyright Act. Although the precise term used under section 117 is ?archival? copy, not ?backup? copy, these terms today are used interchangeably. This privilege extends only to computer programs and not to other types of works."

Also if you try to use a .nfo serial for installing BF2 you will only be able to play single player since the serial will be registered online already. And who installs BF2 just to play single player?
