Comp owned by lightning

Well as the topic says my pc was fried during a bad storm a few days ago. So i want to build a new pc for mainly games, i play CSS, WOW, and want to try out some new ones for dx10. I have a few questions here they go:

1. I need to pick out a motherboard and memory, this is what i have so far: also open for suggestions on these

Intel Core 2 Duo E6750 Conroe 2.66GHz
CORSAIR 520W Power Supply
EVGA GeForce 8800GTS 640MB 320-bit GDDR3 PCI Express x16
From my old computer i will be using my Audigy2 zs and Thermaltake armor case

2. I also have a 7200 250gb seagate that still works but i am thinking about purchasing a 150 gb raptor, will i actually notice any performance gain?


3. Then should i make the switch to Vista? I will have to buy vista and office 2007 which is a lot of cash but if it is worth it i will. Like i said i just play games and i noticed some of the new games require vista so it might be worth it.

2. yes, but not night and day.

3. absolutely NOT. vi$ta isnt worth the box it comes in right now unless you have stock in advil. it is widely recommended to stay away from vi$ta until at least the first service pack comes out. heed the warning!

Sucks your PC got thrashed dude. I've been getting very carefull with thunderstorms, but it's insured so no real worries. Hope yours was/is insured too.

Anyways, if you want dx10 games and you're buying the 8800gts 640mb solely for that, then you should go Vista For WoW and CSS all you really need is a 1950pro/xt or a 7900gs. Fry's has a BFG 7900GS OC 256MB for 149.99 (with rebate it is only 99.99, can be purchased until 31 August) and is a VERY good deal. Perhaps buy a card like that, wait till some REAL dx10 games actually come out, like in november and later on. By then the new generation of dx10 cards will come out, dropping current dx10 cards in price as well. Then you could also buy Vista and be a happy camper. Btw, dualboot with Vista and XP, that's what I do, I just do office work on XP instead of on Vista.

What kind of policy covers lightning damage? I'm seriously curious about this.
