Comp sometimes spams digit endlessly

Three times recently I've had my computer suddenly start spamming the digit 4 endlessly until I either reboot or relog. Shutting down every application and nonstandard process does not help.

What makes me think it might not be the keyboard is: if I press 4 while it's already spamming, it starts spamming twice as fast. Surely a keyboard cannot send double instances of the same signal at once?

Any thoughts on what might be causing it?

Win7 64bit.

I would think, what you shared happens when you hit yr #4 key during this event, would compel you more to hook up another KB rather than ruling out KB issue causing this......be this a desktop or a lappy.

It is a desktop.
It seems to have happened only when Ive had lots of programs running chewing up my RAM. Might be coincidental though.

No, it doesn't stop when I unplug it.

And when I press and hold the same button my computer is typing it types twice as fast. It just seems unreasonable to me that a simple keyboard could be sending double inputs of the same key at once. Although I wouldn't mind being proven wrong.

It doesn't seem to have anything to do with any input i give either. One time when I'd left the computer on during the night it had begun typing away by itself when I woke up.

OK, sounds like Malware. Have you scanned it with anything?

As ketchup79 points out; there's a possibility that you could have a malware process running on your PC which is causing this behavior, especially given that it occurs whether or not the keyboard is connected, as well as starting randomly on it's own. Eliminating the possibility of malware will help you narrow down the cause (probably) to a hardware issue.

I'd suggest downloading ComboFix, save to your desktop, then right-click it and select 'Run as administrator'. Don't touch the keyboard or mouse until ComboFix completes; you'll know when ComboFix has completed because it will automatically open Notepad on the desktop with a log file of it's results.

If no malware is detected and the problem remains the same; I'd then suggest you try powering off your PC, disconnect the PSU from the wall outlet, and reseat all wiring connectors and peripheral components on the mobo
