OK, our Congress Critters in their wisdom have decreed that we shall henceforth use compact fluorescents lights vice anything made here in this country.

Question: What do you do with those CFL's that burn out?

I just replace it and throw it in the trash.

Take it to Home Depot or Lowes where they recycle CFLs or other flourescent lights for you. Seriously, there isn't any reason not to recycle them. Enjoy the mercury dripping into your water table!

If the Congress is not concerned about bring in millions of pounds of mercury into this country why should I?

There is no way I will ever recycle my CFL's.

I suppose you are all for everyone having an electric car too.

They did no such thing. They set efficiency standards for light bulbs, both GE and Osram Sylvania say they can meet those standards with incandescents.

I hate mandates like the stupid incandescent light bulb ban...

But, My wife and I replaced all of our light bulbs with CFLs 5 years ago. We bought the "not cheap" ones, the kind that don't need a few seconds to spool up... Only one burnt out bulb in 5 years...

They didn't ban halogen bulbs nor LED types. Also, they didn't ban the regular light bulbs under 40W either. Put two 40W together and the lumens are brighter. If you have a table lamp, get a bulb splitter to run two 40W bulbs.

They didn't ban automotive nor RV/Marine incandescent 12VDC types either. So, there are other sources for light to use than CFL's.

If you have an automotive lamp/bulb guide, you can figure out that the brake lamps are the brightest.

Talk about crap legislation... this has got to top it all.

Our Government, mandating that we cannot use cheap, powerful, and NORMAL light bulbs.

Thomas Edison, has been deemed a fuck-face, by our Government. His efforts, his industry, is no longer needed, or wanted.

Truly sick.

I want to know why these Congress Critters think all this invasion into are daily lives and massive regulation of everything is what send them to Washington to do. Are they that arrogant? Or that stupid?

Not because they have something better to offer, mind you, it is because they have something WORSE to offer.

Thats just....dumb. Congress doesn't care about the environment, so why should I?

Why, just to spite Congress? I'm not sure if this is just laziness or stupidity.

I suppose you are all for everyone having an electric car too.

No. I wouldn't mind an electric car for daily commuting (I'm living ~8mi from work), but pure electrics just aren't there yet in terms of performance and range for a reasonable price. One size doesn't fit all. The writing is on the wall though (regardless of what the gov't does), so we'd better get with the program and ramp up production.

I don't know why a777Pilot chooses to brat a dead horse again. His congress critters on the right gave it the old college try in terms of repealing the new laws light bulb laws and failed. Meaning its now hopeless to try to pretend old style incandescent bulb will make a come back.

But cheer up a777Pilot, as I gradually replace my still working old style incandescent bulbs with the new more energy efficient bulbs, I still retain those still working incandescent bulbs, and I have a standing offer to sell them to you for $25.00 a bulb.

PM me when you get that desperate.

I replaced all the lights in my house years ago with cfl's,I noticed an immediate reduction in my power bill($20~30)another thing,I have a light on each side of my front door.Used to change the incandesant bulbs every 2~3 months as they would burn out.Once I switched to cfl's,I haven't had to change one yet.As tech changes to halogen/led I will be hard pressed to change from cfl.

So if congress mandated that all cars and trucks must get > 200 MPG starting in 2012, that wouldn't be a ban on cars because it's just an "efficiency standard"?

Remember for Democrats choice only applies to scraping a baby out of a uterus.

lol.

actually it's not that funny D:

So what part of "They set efficiency standards for light bulbs, both GE and Osram Sylvania say they can meet those standards with incandescents." is too hard for you?

You nutters are constantly getting worked into a frenzy when some talk radio blowhard (or Fox News entertainer, talk radio with pictures) feeds you some distorted non-issue. Sorry kids, this isn't the end of the world. It's just one more small step towards better energy efficiency, just like CAFE standards, EnergySTAR, etc. Nobody is forcing you to be responsible or stop being self-centered pigs. I have great confidence you can find new ways to burn energy and money with abandon.

lol.

No, it's not. Hateful, dishonest, hypocritical ... certainly. Funny? No.

That's the spirit. Poison your own environment to prove a point that nobody can tell you what to do.

So wait a sec.. you are mad that the gov took away your "right" to incandescent bulbs, but you are taking it as they don't want you to recycle them and you are going to go along with that part though huh?

It has been said before in this thread, but people can't seem to grasp it. Maybe saying it again will help.

Incandescent bulbs were not banned. Only the least energy efficient bulbs at each wattage are banned (and only then if they don't meet one of dozens of exceptions). What are the exceptions? Give it a special purpose label (such as vibration resistant) and suddenly you can still manufacture, sell, or buy any incandescent bulb you want.
