Compaq BIOS Question.

I currently own a Compaq Presario 5000 Series desktop computer. (Model: 5101RSH specifically for Radio Shack).

I was wondering if anyone knew whether the BIOS on Compaq's motherboards can be flashed and if so, to what version/download location/etc.. I have no information reguarding the current BIOS version, but from what I have gathered, it is manufactured by Compaq as well.

I've tried various programs to determine this, but have gotten nowhere. I've Googled as well.

This company should burn.... It provides almost as little information about their product as Dell.

I remember a long time ago I had a compaq guinie pig and yes, I was able to update the bios via a "softpaq" or something as such. just go to their help site (don't ask me where, I stay away from that site as far as I can now), and look up your computer model, etc, check for downloads. The bios update should show up if you do all this.

I am no expert but yes you can flash the bios on at least some of the Compaq computers. I have one that I did this too. Go to WWW.Compaq.com and enter your computer info under downloads and you can find the info you want.

It's all in *how* you do your searches; I find the HP/Compaq site relatively easy to navigate, but I rather suspect that I've been doing it ALOT longer.

Lastly, if a Bios update were available for your machine it would be listed under the heading of BIOS- System or BIOS. Since there isn't one listed, I'd dare say there isn't one available.

Do you really need to update the BIOS. Remember--If it ain't broke, don't fix it. This is very true of the BIOS.

I helped my friend update the BIOS on his Presario 5000 series a couple of months ago, and it provided support for hard drives over 120GB.
