Compatible components

I am buying the Core 2 Duo E6700 (ATX) processor (BX80557E6700) and the Intel Board (D975XBX2).

What memory do I need to buy? (DDR2 buffered? unbuffered? etc.)

What would be a good, compatible power supply for this processor/motherboard?

Is there an AGP slot on this motherboard - or, if not, is there on-board video? If no, what video card would be compatible with this motherboard (I do not do gaming).

I am buying components for my computer tech to build a computer.

Thanks in advance!

Better Motherboard: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16813128018
- It includes onboard graphics sames you don't plan on gaming.
- It also has a PCI-Express slot sames AGP is coming to an end just incase you ever want to update to something in the future.

RAM/Memory: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16820144176
- Its out of stock at the moment but according to newegg it will be back in stock tomorrow.
- Also it's sub-$100 and it's perfect for if you don't plan on doing any sort of overclocking(I'm assuming you won't be as you won't be gaming).

Powersupply: http://www.newegg.com/Product/...x?Item=N82E16817151029
- It's quiet and be more than enough for your build.

I also agree with the previous poster, why are you buying such expensive parts?

Oh, and just to let you know. There intel is supposed to drop its prices on it's processors sometime next month so if you can hold off until then you may be able to get that processor even cheaper.

buying components for your computer tech to build?

maybe give your computer tech a budget and then let them buy the components & build?

from the other recent threads on system builds you can get some ideas maybe

Thanks QuiksilverX1 - this is JUST the kind of help I need - and I do all my buying at NewEgg! I DO want an Intel mobo, though, is the one you recommended Intel? (I'll go and look at it.)

This computer is for my daughter - and hers just died! Unfortunately, she needs a new one - like yesterday - so, much as I'd like to wait a month, I can't.

Thanks again for your help! I'm going shopping right now!

The motherboard doesn't need to be branded with the intel logo for it to work with an intel processor. It just needs to be intel compatible - IE - socket and whatever processor compatible. In which case that motherboard suites the deal as it is the proper socket and it supports core 2 duo series.

@ Calvin

Bleh, valueselect. I hate that ram with a passion, gone through 3 set's of the stuff in less than 2 years on my old computer.

Besides I just choose CAS 3 even thought it would only be about a 5% performance increase would be nice to have.

Also I didn't look at 2 GB options as I thought 1 GB would be more than enough considering he/she isn't going to be gaming.

You can probably find a Dell with a monitor for the price of the parts you're looking for. They have sales all the time.

QuiksilverX1: I've been burned already - had two MSI mobos fail on me. BUT - since you recommend the Gigabyte - perhaps I'll go with it since it does have on-board graphics and the Intel doesn't.

Can you recommend faster RAM? (Remember - I'm looking for quality - not "cheap.") I bought this for my computer in March: MEM 1Gx2|KST 240P KVR800D2N5K2/2G % for $229.49. It's now $108.49!! Is it O.K.?

CalvinHobbes:

Dell has THE WORSE tech support of all!! Besides - I wouldn't have a "store-bought" computer - I don't want proprietary junk and gobs of software loaded on my computers. My daughter has a 21" LCD monitor - and a keyboard - and a mouse. All she needs is a new CPU.......

If you don't overclock your not going to use that extra speed.

As best said by someone else from another thread:
"It'll run at DDR2-533 unless you overclock it. That's the default setting to allow the memory to run "1:1" with the FSB. "

Which is why I keep picking ram that is DDR2-533.
