Dear friends,

My Sony Bravia HDTV has component inputs but no HDMI or DVI inputs and i would like to connect Nvidia 8800 GT to it using component cables.

I plan on using the HDTV adapter that came with the card. I tried some very cheap cables but the colour was odd and the picture dark.

The distance between the PC and the HDTV is not more than 6 feet. I would like to know if I should go for Monster cables or are the ones from
Monoprice good enough? Also, would there be a big difference between the "premium version" of these cables?

Thank you

There will be no difference between Monster cables and the ones from Monoprice other than having more money left in your wallet after buying them.

Thank you for replying!

What about the Premium cables? Will I notice any difference between them and the ordinary ones?

How was the color odd before? Maybe you should try a bit more to attempt to get the cheap cables working a little longer just to make sure that it's an issue with the cables and not something else?

Make sure you dont have your R, G, B plugs crossed or mixed up. Check the color, gamma..ect settings for the video card in Windows.

well, odd in the sense that when the HDTV was displaying the desktop through the VGA connection the picture was bright, sharp and
the color was very good but when I changed it to component out at 1080i the display was darker and the color looked dull.

Why don't you keep it connected with VGA?

Because of the following reasons:

1) I could get a higher resolution (1080i) using component,
with VGA I am limited to 1280x768 (max supported pc resolution by HDTV).

2) I was told I could upscale my videos using ffdshow. (I am not sure about this.)

3) Overall the picture quality should be better than VGA.

Make sure you have all of them connected correctly and make sure you have your options for the TV out set properly in nVidia's control panel.

The color spacing is different between RGB and YPbPr.

What model of bravia TV do you have?

As far as cables go, you can pretty much trust anything from monoprice to be decent quality (cables, adapters, etc...). I haven't had a problem with any of their stuff yet... and most of my cables were purchased through them (DVI, VGA, DVI>HDMI, HDMI, component, digital optical, digital coax, optical switches, etc...). Monster cables are good quality, but vastly overpriced. They do make a few products worth purchasing, but man are there cables ever expensive (unless you have a friend that works at BB and can get them for the employ price - which happens to make them a very good solution)

The "Premium" cables from Monoprice are actually worth the few dollars more that they charge for them because they are better shielded & usually more durable so I often spring for them myself, however even the cheaper ones should work fine.
