I understand compressed air is pretty decent for cleaning out fans and heatsinks, and cases in general. But what about spraying it on PCBs? I remember hearing it was bad, but I dont' know if that was a rumour that was debunked, or the truth.
The only thing to be careful of with using compressed air is blowing it directly on fans. I ruined an NV5 silencer by blowing the dust off the fan. I've heard of others destroying case fans that way as well. Basically, they aren't designed to spin beyond a certain speed.
If you do want to clean off the fans, hold down the fan blades with a finger.
I cant think of any reason either, aside from maybe condensation from the cold air. All ll power should be off (including standby power to PCI slots.. make sure power supply is unplugged and cycle the power switch to discharge caps and such). Shoot from a distance.
But be careful when spraying around fans, its easy to overspin them or put too much sideways pressure on the bearings.
