bfavre,

The first page of the small outer page had the 40 gig drive $149.99 - $50 rebate plus listed above the drive was a free ultra ATA/100 PCI adapter card $49.99 - $49.99 rebate. Now the ad did not mention maxtor but the sku number is to the Maxtor 40 gig drive.

The store did not have the have the rebate for the drive but did have the rebate for the card. The store employee said it would work for both, but I don't see anything on the rebate form to lead me to that conclusion.

So, did anyone get on this deal and get the $50 rebate for the drive and the $50 rebate for the pci card? If so can you post the rebate form or email me a copy.

I am going to call the 800 number on the rebate form to validate the employee's opinion but I am not willing to go on just his word.

hey, I just got the webcam and had a question about the rebate. I just grab the slip that was there without looking and when I got home, I realize the rebate says $20 off for purchases between 2/18 and 2/19. Did anyone find the $30 form? Or is there a separate $10 rebate? Thanks.

SinMen:

The good part about I/O Magic rebate is you can go to their site, fill out a form, and the rebate come within a month.

How do you do that? I went to their site - no such animal that I could find.

There is a $20 MIR, plus a $10 MIR when you register with a website. As I have alraedy done this twice, this is no longer available.

The Kensington cam has an orange sticker on the box for the $10 rebate. But, both the $10 and $20 rebate want the original UPC. They advertised it as one $29.99 rebate. When they have multiple rebate forms they usually tell you. Looks like I will have to go back to CompUSA tommorrow and question them.

EDIT 2/19: Talked to compUSA CSR. she said to send original UPC with orange rebate on box and copy with other rebate. I will be sending a note of explanation with both.

The I/O Magic rebate page only seems to have an online form to inquire about rebates you already sent in. That may be what SinMen is talking about.

If you got the 25pk TDK CDRs you better send in the rebate now. Rebate form says it must be postmarked by 2/26 which only gives you a week.

Ok, the sound board isn't such a good deal for Win2k users. I tried it on two different systems I have... it has bus master DMA problems with the stock Win2K drivers. I spent 2 hours, and I am about as close to an expert on Win2K and hardware as you can find.

My systems are heavy on bus master devices: both have Digital tulip 100Mbps network adapters, promise Ultra66 PCI IDE controllers, plus the base. The main system I tried it on was my Asus p3v4x (Via 133 pro chipset)...

Would work under light load, but when I stressed all my disk controllers (4 channels, 4 drives) at the same time I would get a lock-up. Put my 16-bit ISA Crative Labs Sound Blaster 64 back in and everything works fine...

Oh well, I'll use it in a less complicated system some day. I suspect without the heavy bus mastering on my system it would work OK -- but this system is P3 933 (FSB 133Mhz) and has 1GB of RAM... and 4 hard drives on 4 different IDE channels (all master)... it doesn't tolerate a poor quality driver.

After you send in the rebate and if you do not get the money in say 6-8 weeks, go to I/O Magic's web site to fill out the form. They will track the rebate info down, provided that received it, and sent out the check really quick. I had 3 rebates back from April 2000, that I almost forgot. Then I filled out the form at their site during Christmas 2000, and all 3 rebates came back the 2nd week of Jan 2001.

I/O Magic handles their own rebates. They will hold your rebate until you inquire about it. Once you check on it they release it and you get your check in about a week. These people play dirty. This is how they can give out such big rebates and allow CompUSA to advertise stuff for free.

SinMen, if you had not remembered and inquired about your rebate you would have never received it!

The situation in Tigard was pretty much chaos. No two numbers or prices or descriptions or quantites matched on the memory. And nobody who worked at the store seemed to have checked any of this before they opened. But most folks seemed polite about it. And "mysmartpad" has to be the silliest product that I've seen, took one of those just for show and tell.

Isn't rebate form supposed to be original when you mail it in.
Those sound cards, 56k modem, ethernet card sold out fastest.

"The sound card is an Aureal 8820"

Wrong. It's an 8830, the Vortex 2 chip. The box is mismarked. I have it right now in front of me.

Make sure you download the newest drivers for it also, it will fix the 'crash on loading the Soundblaster Pro emulation' problem.

Forget about going to the store. They're all out. Buy everything online and use the scanned rebates. But when it arrives from some warehouse, will the packing slip say it was ordered online today? (since the rebate requires it)

Can you get the $70 rebate off the WD HD without buying the zip drive? I didn't see that in the advertisement.

BTW adios, I have the HD rebate. It's a photocopy, but I think it's still good b/c that's what the store had. I don't have it with me right now at work. I'll try to get it scanned tommorrow.
