Can anybody tell me anything good/bad about that keyboard (the G15)? I'm still using a 8 or 9 year old Focus 9000 (I think) PS/2 keyboard.

Only thing that caught my eye was the SOLDOUT WD external 250GB hard drive.

First off, it's big. REALLY big. I'm finally getting used to it after using various other Logitech keyboards (and the good old "standard" keyboards).

You can program the G-Keys to do anything... I've got a few set up to quick launch various applications.

The LCD is pretty cool, I use the performance monitor most to see how much RAM (%) I'm using and how much my CPU (x2 3800+) is being hit (it shows 2 lines but only the average %).

USB cable is really short. I need to get an extention to get it routed right. The USB ports on the keyboard itself are nice, but as I have dual 2005fpw LCDs with 4 ports on each, it's starting to get out of hand.

I'd give it a rating of 8 our of 10. I snagged it when Dell had it on sale last time they did the deals... I think it was $55 then...

Oh, and first post after lurking for about 2 years.

I'm looking for a surge protector. Is the on there a good deal? I live in an old building with wiring from the 70's and a surge protector is suggested. I can either get that one or a cheapo one from BB for ~$13.

With old wiring, I would get a UPS with AVR (Automatic Voltage Regulation). A surge protector only protects you against spikes. It does not help as much as AVR which always provides a clean and correct current to your PC (under and over voltage as well as freqency). They cost more, but depending on how much your PC cost you, it might well be worth it.

The Radeon X1600 Video Card, 8x AGP, 512MB GDDR2 card for $149 seems pretty hot. Anyone know if I will see any real improvement over my 9800 Pro on a P4 2.53 ghz system?

Not really hot... ZipZoomFly has the 256MB version for $115 (http://www.zipzoomfly.com/jsp/ProductDetail.jsp?ProductCode=326841), and really I doubt you'd see any performance improvement from the extra 256MB.

no, and i don't think any currently selling agp card will (despite what nvidia fanboys will say)
edit: it may help with games that require ps 3.0... or not

If you use motherboard monitor, you can get an applet that someone wrote that displays the settings to the G15 LCD.
Really great.
I found that the CPU monitor isn't designed for dual core though, haha (at least the version that I grabbed from Logitech a month ago).

For more bang for the buck, I'd get this Radeon® X800 XL AGP 256MB D/V/VIVO Whitebox - REFURB* + Standard Warranty for $119.00

or

this Radeon® X850 Pro 256MB AGP - New + 1 Year Standard Warranty for $139.00

I mentioned this here.

That X850 says preorder... pretty sure it'd been out for a while right? I'm thinking they aren't coming back then.

OT, but is this because of my processor speed or limitations in the AGP cards being made today? That is, should I bother upgrading my current machine at all or just get a new PCI Express system?

Going from a 9800 Pro to a X1600 Pro, you won't see any "real" improvement. Yes, there will be an improvement, but only minimal.

Someone correct me if I'm wrong, but the X1600 Pro is about the same speed as a 6600GT. And the 6600GT is slightly faster than a 9800 Pro, but the same as a 9800 Pro on some games.

Therefore, not really worth it to jump to a X1600 Pro from a 9800 Pro, IMO.

Get one of the ATi cards I mentioned above and you'll see a "real" improvement.
