Does anyone have any experience with CompUSA brand power supplies?

Are they any good?

I am considering one of the 400, 500, or 600 watt versions for my new 3 GHz machine!

Thanks

In general, I've found compusa is very overpriced compared to what you can get on the internet. I only use CompUSA stuff if A) it is on a very good sale or B) I'm in a pinch.

I haven't bought from COMPUSUCK for about a year and a half.

My wife gave me a gift card from them and when I went to redeem it they said it wasn't activated and treated me as if I had stolen it.

I buy my stuff on the internet or go to Micro Center(wife gives me certificates from there now!)

If they are antec PSU, of course those are good, I just suggest getting them elsewhere.

I'm having good results with low cost PSUs from Electroseller.com

I was in a crunch for a PS when my Enlight went dark. I picked up the CompUSA 500W for my XP1700 and GF2 card. The PS lasted 4 months and the 3.3v lead started to get weak (2.7v max). I replaced it with an Antec 430W Truepower and haven't had a PS problem since. I remember looking the PS's in each hand and the quality of the real Antec was WAY above what CompUSA had sold me. Never again. Maybe if I needed one for a Celeron but that's not going to happen either.

I figure I spent somewhere in the range of $185 on the three PS's. It was an expensive lesson but it was a lesson I learned well. If you have a high end PC do not skimp on the PS. It may very well come back to haunt you later.

Hope this helps.

How can they be rebadge Antecs when Antec themselves rebadge offerings from Channel Well and Herolchi?

In any case, CompUSA brand PSU's suck. They are NOT supplied by the same vendor that services Antec. I've compared them side by side. I've had TWO of these POS die on me within a 6 month. The second one did so and stunk up my bedroom with fumes to boot.

This make any sense to you?

Within the Boston area:
From I-90 (Mass. Pike) take the Cambridge/Allston Exit. Continue over the bridge to Memorial Drive. Turn right onto Memorial Drive. Micro Center is on the left.

From Boston Logan Airport:
Look for the Airport exit and follow signs to Sumner Tunnel. Take the tunnel to I-93 South. Continue on I-93S to I-90 (Mass. Turnpike). From I-90 take the Cambridge/Allston Exit. Continue over the bridge to Memorial Drive. Turn right onto Memorial Drive. Micro Center is on the left.

There's a map at the website.

I like Microcenter. Usually not the cheapest prices, but they have a very good selection of brand name items.

Bad;

Salesperson told me my 250W wouldn't cut it for the Voodoo5, sold me a 300w CUSA to go with it.

For a week the PSU smelled up my home before a resistor or something completely melted down.

Put the 250W generic back in, and worked fine.

CUSA is >100miles from me, CUSA would not do a replacement over the phone, they required that I go to the store within warranty period.

-Will not buy from CompUSA ever again.

Microcenter is a very good PC store IMO. Their prices are good...and are even better when theres a sale! Good deals every month!

Just picked up a Logitech MX300 from Microcenter for $16.99

They also had the Retail R9700Pro for $320 and the Retail R9500Pro for $175!!! Awesome prices!!!

i am skeptical about almost anything compusa. and as someone already mentioned... even if it is a rebadged antec... it will be overpriced. i too would recommend getting a good mfr psu (antec, sparkle) online if u can. last choice would be compusa.

I bought a 300 watt one and it's worked for 2 years non-stop !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

Could be that:

1. I leave the case open
2. I blow all the dust out of it every month
