Cliff notes: I bought a monitor at compusa + a $70 2 year extended warrenty. Compusa no longer carrys my monitor and they would give me anything comparable so now im stuck with a sh1t lcd and wondering if i should contact compusa or viewsonic?

OK SO i bought this 15inch view sonic LCD at compusa about a year ago i also purchased a 2 year extended warrenty because it was a floor model. NOW when i bought this montior the sales guy was being a total dick to me so i asked to speak with the manager. In a nut shell, i told the manager what was going on with the sales guy and what not and the manager gave me this deal.

$169.88 for the monitor
$69.99 for the 2year warrenty
and a free pack or CDR's (which i freakin paid for but didnt realize till now)
total = 262.48

So now its a year later and my monitor was lines going across it, so i go in today to get my replacement under my 2 year $70 replacement plan and they said that because they dont have that monitor in stock anymore they can only give me $169 towards the purchase of a new monitor. Well everybody knows that you cannot buy a view sonic monitor for $169! So i got the manager who sold me the monitor and i got him to at least refund the price of the monitor plus the price of the warrenty for a grand total of 249.88 he said he couldnt refund the price of the cds or any TAX. But again there is no view sonic LCD even close to that $250. SO he goes in the back and brings out this haggard samsung monitor that had crap all over the casing. He said they were going to send it back to samsung anyway so he could give it to me as an even exchange. AFter an HOUR of him trying to compare computers to FORDS!! I was like look MOST stores with the extended warrenty will upgrade your product if they dont carry what you had before. Best buy did it with my head unit! So i told him to forget it and i took my montior and recipts back home.

SO now i dont know what to do, should i write compusa corp a letter or should i write view sonic? Has anybody else had to deal with anything like this? if so how did you reslove it?

Thanks for reading. excuse any sopelling errors im furious right now.

yeah... 250 bucks is a fair deal. Today's LCDs are much better than the one you got back then.

Take the $250 and put it towards a $1250 Samsung 213t. It's probably much nicer than your old monitor anyways.

you know, $250 can buy a pretty decent 15" LCD. Do a little research and see what you can get for $250.

I didn't mean to wrag on you or anything. I hope you end up with a decent monitor. You might even check out the AT FS\FT forums for a new monitor. Good luck.

Dude, you're lucky they gave you 250 back and not 170. Thats all I would have given you. The way warranties work is they replace the monitor if they have it, if not they replace your money that you paid for it. Its not their fault that the manufacture doesn't make that montior anymore.

You have no right to complain about the store, it sounds like they did a pretty fricken good job. I'd be happy I got my money back if I were you. And you got more then just your money back, you got the warranty refunded too, which shouldn't have happened since it obviously paid out for you.

lol... actually, now that I think about it, some Compusas are better than others. A friend of mine broke his logitech keyboard and mouse combo kit and they didn't sell it anymore. So all they did was give him the newer model that's almost the same thing but a little better in exchange. Too bad the compusa didn't just fork over the cheapest Viewsonic 15" LCD that they had.

I didnt get ANY money back i dont know what you are talking about? If you read it says they would have gave me $250 towards a new monitor. Which is no good to me. I just want the same thing i have but one that doesnt have lines all over the screen.

TuxDave: The manager at compusa told me that they no longer make 15inch viewsonic lcds, which i know is now true because they sell them on the compusa website!

Alls i want is another 15inch LCD. But im not going to get some sh1tty samsung!

While I absolutely hate CompUSA, I believe they offered you a very fair deal. Are you that biased towards Viewsonic that you won't even research the quality of other new LCDs? Someone said earlier that the new Samsungs have very good quality which I can vouch for.

So you were offered $170 back (what you paid for the LCD), or $250 (warranty + LCD price) as store credit toward another LCD & you are complaining???

You are lucky they were fair about it.

I'm sure you'll be able to find some kind of decent monitor there for the $250 + a bit perhaps, or if you really don't want anything there, take your $170 & quit whining.

You seem to be forgetting that if you hadn't spent that $70, you'd be totally outta luck.

The way i see it, they are being about as fair as they can be about it, & if you are nice, they may even let you get another deal on a better LCD.

Yep I too believe they gave you a very fair offer. $250 towards the purchase of another LCD would've gotten a pretty good discount on the 15" Viewsonic they sell on the website at $319. I'm fairly sure that it states in the TAP booklet that they give you that they'll either replace it with an item that is similar to the original if not available or the original purchase price of said item. They could've gotten away with offering you nothing more than the 15" Kogi LCD that they sell and would have been within the warranty terms. What you're trying to do is the equivalent of buying a 2001 model year vehicle and then having it break down and try to get a 2004 model vehicle, not going to happen. There's something to be said when the majority of ATOT chimes in to say that you got a fair shake because we're pretty quick to jump down the throat of a retailer if they do screw up badly enough.

if u are poor maybe you should be less worried about an LCD and bitching out CompUSA when they did a decent job for you in the first place.

They could have technically offered you $170 towards a new monitor. Why they offered you $250 baffles my mind. If you were my customer with that attitude, you would be lucky to get anything.
