Computer Automatically Shuts Down =(

I'm wondering what would cause a computer to just automatically shut down?

My old Chaintech VNF3-250 was busted and so i got a new one RMAed from chaintech. I also got a brand new powersupply from newegg just in case it was my old powersupply that busted the motherboard before.

So now with everything installed windows runs ok, it's only when I do something graphics intensive like play videogames that the system would just automatically shut off. Not reboot...just shut off.

I checked the motherboard bios and the automatic shutdown at a high temp isn't even on, so it can't be my motherboard shutting off because of high cpu temps?

My cpu temp idle is around 42, and system temp is around 30 i think.

help? could it be the videocard? ram?

Have you tried stripping down your system to the basics? I.e. CPU, one stick of memory and Video card?

Do you have another video card you can try?

To me it sounds like it could be the video card or the power supply? Even though it's new, you could have gotten a bad one.

Also try resetting the ram????

thanks for the fast reply guys...hmmm...so a bad video card or memory can just shut down a computer under load?

what do you mean by resetting the ram? just taking it out and putting it back in?

Also, did you OC any parts of your system? Especially your ram or video card? Have you tried to update your mobo bios?

nope, everything is on default settings. Mobo bios is updated to latest version on the website. I didn't touch any of the speed settings in the mb bios at all either.

I suspect your power supply. Got any quality-brand units in the 350W+ range that you could try in its place?

Yes resetting the ram is taking it out and putting it back in.

I'm still banking on the bad power supply or video card. If you can test those and they come back ok, then i'd start thinking about about RMAing the MOBO again.

I love newegg, but I've gotten some bad parts and they replaced it with another bad piece. Not their fault. Just happens.
