Hello peoples.

I own this computer desk: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...ct_id=11003066

I also own this chair: http://www.walmart.com/catalog/produ...ct_id=14013709

The problem I am having is, my eye level contact is not on the right level. As I will ask you people out there, shouldn't it be directly aligned with the top of the screen for maximum comfort?

Well, this chair I have does not have the capability to become that high so I can have a leveled view of the monitor.

Also I have a LCD monitor, is it recommended to tilt it or something, will that work?

So What should I exactly do about this problem??

Well I am definitely waiting for an answer.

Thank you very much

For the best ergonomics and reduction of eye-strain, your eyes should be perpendicular from from the top of the screen. I have a 4-monitor setup stacked 2+2. The bottom 2 are my personal system, the top two are for my work system (hooray for telecommuting). When using the top two, they are angled down, and I recline my chair to maintain the angle. It's not perfect, but it keeps it pretty comfortable. If you're having neck/eye strain and can't get everything adjusted, you might consider picking up a cheap VESA mount to give you better control of the monitor angle.

Well the thing right now is, I am sitting 6 1/2 inches down from the top of the monitor. and I have to bend forward. Do you think buying a chair will help? Also I am wondering if that's the case... will this be a good investment? http://www.bestbuy.com/site/True+Inn...&skuId=1717037

Coming back to your angle comment, you think if I bend the monitor down, I can get a good angle with my current maximum height of the chair?

The problem appears to be the desk, not the chair. A lot of these two- or three-tiered desks place the monitor above optimal eye-level in an attempt to maximize total desk area with a minimum depth.

Try placing the monitor on the second tier and see if that isn't better, even if it might seem too close at first.

Probably most monitors, especially larger ones, are best used on a standard one-level desk with a depth of 25-26" or so.

i use an absurdly large monitor (32" TV about 3 feet from me)

it's angled down slightly in order for the top portion to be perpendicular to my eyes. i suggest you do the same.

I have never understood the point of those tiered desks for computers. The ergonomics are automatically crap for every user for exactly the reason OP is experiencing, and if you actually use all that shelf space, there's dust everywhere that is hard to clean. My thoughts -

- first, stick the display on the second level like Tenoc suggests.
- check if you could partially disassemble this desk, or saw some parts off, without the desk falling apart. If you could remove the highest tier to make room for the display, this would become a much better desk.
- sell this desk off and use another. Any old table you might have around the house is better than this.
