Okay whenever I use my new PC it starts up and if i try to reboot it refuses to restart. I then have to take my pc .. open it up.. and reset the cmos.. then it starts up just fine.. but after setting cmos settings and saving and rebooting.. it doesnt reboot.. fans and everything turn on.. but i get 0 signal on my screen and this is a new monitor and if i load default settings on the cmos it then goes into windows just fine.

But then when I restart in windows it dies again. So it happens pretty much whenever I reboot..

AMD 64 3200+
Asus A8N
1024 Corsair Twin MX PC3200
GeForce 6600 GT AGP 128mb PNY
500w Aspire PSU with a 34A on 12v
120GB Samsung SATA 7200 RPM drive
48x24x48 CDRW Cendyne

I really dont anna reset my CMOS every freaking time.. it use to not do this too.. for like a few weeks.. anyone know?

Um now its gotten even weirder.. when i restarted the pc.. the keyboard now isnt responding to enter the cmos settings or even get past that just by hitting 1 key to set standard settings to load windows..

and then i rebooted after that and resetting cmos again cause thats the only way for it to post after i turn it off once... it now wont go past the Asus K8N logo page.. and i cant get into setup from that either cause the keyboards not responding agian..

Shall try.. its still stuck on that logo though.. wasnt before.. before it actually went into the screen where it gives u info saying it detects ram and usb controller etc and then asks to hit F1 for bios setup or f2 for default.. and it wont go there.. juist sits at the stupid ASUS logo now

okay it gets past the logo now.. score.. now its saying cpu fan error.. and the fan doesnt power on, yet it was earlier.. so i moved it to the other power fan connector.. and it works.. but is still giving me an error and if i dont set anything in the bios it asks for a password...

also it wont let me enter bios setup either.. it just demands the password.. its weird cause i cleared the cmos.. how the heck would it want a password.. and its saying "overclocking failed" on the check hardware screen where its detecting usb keyboards harddrive and memory.. yet im not ocing...

never have in my life.. and i cleared the cmos.. and its still coming up like this.. and it wont let me enter the bios setup either.. seems like the keyboard is detected it says so.. but it wont respond to hitting delete f1 or what not.. also.. says "CMOS Checksum Error" during the hardware checking screen.. as well as "failed overclocking" and "CPU fan error"

Anyway, Just pulled this from a site:

1. pull power cord
2. wait 30 seconds.
3. remove the battery from the little clip
(note which way it will go back in)
4. move the jumper cap on the CLRTC header from the left two pins to the right two pins. This header is on frontpanel edge of the board about 2 inches below the blue PRI_IDE connector.
5. leave the jumper there for about 15 minutes to be sure all the CMOS charge has bled off. Some people say 10 seconds, I say this is too short.
6. reverse the procedure: move the jumper back, reinstall the battery, plug in the power.
7. attach the monitor and keyboard, and power up.
8. the system will probably report a new CPU is installed, and then it will ask to hit F1 to enter Setup, or F2 to continue with defaults: ALWAYS choose the F1 choice in this situation (i.e. don't use defaults).
9. This should take you into the BIOS Setup utility. Otherwise you can press the DELETE key to get in there; the password should be gone. If the password is still there, repeat the procedure but wait longer try 3 hours, no kidding).

Trying this.. its weird.. I got into the BIOS Setup just before you posted this.. but when i got in.. it was all screwy.. my boot priority listed 3 floppys.. and i couldnt change it from that.. even though it detected my cd-rom and harddrive.. when i left it like that.. it read my cd drive but refused to start up windows..

ill see what else is going on.. gonna try your procedure and wait 15 mins etc to see if it completly bleeds off and start over like that..

Ill get back to u in a few minutes

Aight.. my motherboards on crack.. or something.. Now whenever i go into the BIOS options and im trying to set the date and time.. it resets itself back to 00:00:00 year 2099.. even before i restart.. it just does it soon as i hit enter after putting in February 5th 2005.. and the time right now.

also it keeps saying its 3 floppys and when i set it to cd-rw/harddrive in boot priority.. it resets itself back to 3 floppys...

Ok,

Try disconnect ALL devices from the mobo except one hdd, vga, kb, mouse, and any ESSENTIALS that arent mentioned.
What happens?

Okay kept 1 stick of memory in (512mb) harddrive keyboard vid card and thats it..

i turned it on.. i went into bios.. its still doing the funky time error where it wont let me change the time as it keeps reverting itself..

also it keeps detecting my memory as 49954mb or something to that rather.. something insane... and it wont keep and save my boot priority..

Ugh..

(BTW Thank you for all this help montag <3)

Ah - one other thing, what is the voltage for the RAM - you might want to TRY and set it to 2.7v or maybe even 2.8v

i cant set it to 2.7v.. it reverts it back to auto every single timem cause my bios refuses to save anything cause the times all screwed up...

it is stuck on year 2099.. yet.. when i try changing that.. it refuses to change cause it reverts itself back to 2099.. ill try the other stick of ram now..

OK - if you have a spare CMOS BATTERY lying around from another mobo, then exchange them.

It might - if you are very lucky be a flat battery.

If the CMOS settings aren't being held in the BIOS, then I can only think that it is either:
Dodgy CMOS battery.
Dodgy BIOS chip.
Dodgy CMOS chip.

With the last two, I think you would have to RMA.
There may be other causes, but I can't think of any offhand, but no doubt someone will post another explanation and I will kick myself very hard for missing the obvious ;-p
