So here's my setup:
MSI K9N SLI platinum Nforce 570 flashed to 1.60 revision (latest) and with all the latest drivers
Athlon X2 5600+ with Core Optimizer installed (whatever that does)
2 GB Wintec AmpX DDR6400
Xion Powerreal 600W
Sapphire ATI/AMD x1050
WD 160GB 3.0 SATA
WD 80GB 1.5 SATA
Running Windows XP Pro w/ SP2 and all current updates
Zonealarm Firewall
AVG Anti-virus and Spyware
Here's my problem:
I built this rig about a month ago. It runs perfectly fine except, occasionally, it'll freeze on Windows startup. I'm talking about the screen with the Windows logo and the loading bar. I've run memtest and it came back fine (although I only ran it for a few hours). I don't think it's my power supply, because I've left the computer on for days and it seems to be doing just fine. I haven't run into any stability problems either; the computer works perfectly once I get past the loading screen. I would say my computer has frozen on load up about... 2-3 times now? I think about once every 1-2 weeks since I built it. Keep in mind I turn it on and off constantly, so this is a lot rarer than it sounds.
I was just wondering if any of you guys have any suggestions as to what it could be. Do you think it's my motherboard or CPU? I'm not very knowledgeable on how to tech problems with my computer... unless it's something obvious, like a bad PSU. I'd like to know, so that if it IS hardware related, I can get a replacement.
Right now, I don't think it's anything hardware related, and just more due to a driver problem during the startup phase. I'm planning on reformatting my computer soon in hopes of getting rid of this problem, but would like to know of any possible tests I could run to see if it's actually a different problem. Save myself the trouble. My use of the computer is very light, basically P2P, internet surfing, MS Office, and the occasional burning. So, I guess it's possible that it's still hardware related, since I haven't actually been stressing the system much?
Please help!
On a side note: I DID used to experience frequent freezing the first week, when I enabled the MSI cool n quiet program. Once I uninstalled it, my computer ran fine... but I only disabled the function in the BIOS last week. Could it be possible that my current freezes are an after effect of this?
