Hi all,
I've found that my computer will only boot up from a cold boot, and only if it's been powered off for at least a few minutes. If I do a normal reboot, it gets stuck on the POST screen.
What is odd is that when this occurs, the boot screen lists a duplicate of each of my three drives. First they are listed on IDE channels 0 and 1 (they are sata drives), which is normal, but then it shows them listed again after it says "detecting IDE drives". It says they are also on ide channels 4 and 5. It is at this point the machine freezes or proceeds very slowly. During a normal boot, they aren't listed twice. Normally, only my plextor dvd-rom (IDE) drive should be in the second section.
I've tested each stick of ram with memtest for about half an hour (one pass) and no errors and have tried different slots on the mobo. I've tried another PSU. I removed the CPU, reapplied thermal grease, and reseated it with the cpu fan/heatsink. I've tried booting with no hard drives or the dvd drive attached, but none of this has made a difference.
I'm looking at temperatures with HWMonitor and the CPU is about 26 C and system around 38 C while idle. I haven't tried updating the BIOS or resetting to defaults but not sure if that would matter since it's worked fine for a while. System is not overclocked.
Any help appreciated.
My specs:
Gigabyte P35-DS4
Intel Q6600
2x2GiB G.Skill DDR2 (PC2-6400 5-5-5-15)
Asus GeForce 9800GT
Corsair 520HX PSU
