Something happened in the middle of the night to my computer. When I looked at my computer the monitor screen was frozen. So I turned the computer off and restarted. However no signal was sent to my my monitor. It remained blank. I took out my older computer to check to see if the monitor was working and it was fine. So I plugged my main computer back in and I hear this buzzing noise. Its not coming from the harddrives. Everything turns on in my computer, one thing that I did notice was that the DVD player and CD player LED lights contantly flash and I can't open drives. I opened up my computer and unhooked the connection to my DVD/CD players and then buzzing noise stopped and then I could also open the drives. The motherboard light is on, all the fan lights and the CPU turn on so I'm not exactly sure what the problem is but I am thinking that perhaps its is the Graphics Card? I was going to take it to Best Buy since they have a Geek store that will diagnose problems but I know that they will try to sell my crap that I don't need so I kind of want to have an ideal of what will need to be fixed on my computer so that they won't try to sell me something I don't need.

Can anyone help me troubleshoot the problem before I take it there?
I imagine thats its either the motherboard or the graphics card. If I should need to replace either what should i get?

Do you have a video card in your old computer you can use for testing?

Yes I do but I'm not sure how to remove my current video card. As an update I did get my Asus motherboard manual book and found some information about resetting the bios. I also called for technical support and they helped talked me through removing the onboard battery and placing the jumper pins in the reset position. I tried restarting the computer and I did not hear a beep (the tech support guys said this was the motherboards way of checking all the components of the computer system to make sure its working properly or something like that) so I'm assuming that the motherboard may not be working properly and I will need to replace it. Now trying to decide whether I should take my computer to Best Buy or Fry's to have it repaired. IF the motherboard needs to be replaced should I get the same one or something else? I had noticed that lately my computer was constantly freezing up and I having to restart my computer a lot to try and rid myself of the slow reacting or freezing computer screen before it went offline. Sometimes it happened t whenever I was playing games (like Rappelz), the computer system was reacting slowly. I'm not sure what type of motherboard will be compatible the current components on my comupter system.

Did you put the BIOS jumper back to the right position after you reset it? And for removing the video card you need to remove the screw thats holding it to the motherboard and see if at the base of card where it plugs into the motherboard there are any locking buttons they maybe on the side or at the back of the card on the mothboards video card slot. If so try pressing them as you remove the card.

I did put the Biols jumper back in the right positions after i reset it. Now removing my big vidoe cards is something I"m little unsure of doing cause can't find my book and I just don't want to damage anything or nor damage my backup computer. I think I have gone as far as my limited computer tech troubleshooting can go as far as what I feel comfortable doing troubleshooting wise.

It seems as if the motherboard needs to be replaced. Does anyone know if there was a problem with the Asus motherboard model I had? When I took it in to get repaired, the computer tech guy said he did not like to use Asus motherboards because of the problems they have.
