Computer question/problem

So I came home from school (after being gone for a few months), and I try to bootup my computer but it doesnt work. Do some diags...etc. Look at the motherboard, most of the capacitors have corroded. I was wondering if I replaced the caps on the mobo, would it be likely to work again? Or is it not worth doing? I have a lot of experience soldering, just that Id have to go and order the caps and try it.

If you are not in your warranty period anymore, you can try that to see if it works. It may not, but maybe you will have some fun in the process (if you like soldering, of course)

Damn I went to digikey and the caps are about a buck a piece, and theres like 20 of them that are blown. I could get a new motherboard for about 40 or so... might not be worth it

And maybe that's a good reason for upgrading it and getting other features your old one didn't have (cuz I suppose it's an old one since it isn't in your warranty period anymore)

Well I dont really use it much since I use my laptop up at school (ibm t40), I just want to get this one working again so my friends can use it to play games (like SC) and so I can use it when I come home for holidays and breaks.
