I have a problem with my Dell that I bought about a month ago. When I accidently bump the computer, it automatically reboots. Anyone know what the problem could be? I'm currently calling Dell Tech Support but I've been on hold for 15 minutes.

It's clearly a driver issue. j/k

Have a beer. They'll be sending you some new parts or whole system soon.

Edit: After they make you triple check every connector and card to be sure it didn't get loose in shipping (which I assume you've done).

That happened to a Machine i purchased awhile back.

Turns out the soldering inside the PSU was touching the inside of the PSU Casing and causing a short when ever it was moved or bumped.

Wierd but true.....i troubleshooted it for days before thinking of even opening that up.

I had the case lined with Foam, Tried upteen Vid Cards, New Ram, New this and new that, Bench tested it to its hearts content and it never showed problems until i remounted in the same case, but it was one of those (im going to beat you cases) so i never gave up.

lmao....wierd part about it is after we got to know eachother inside and out (comp and I) i sold it............roflmao

I had the same problem. Hunted all over for something loose. Never could find it. Took the whole thing apart and hooked it up on a table. I then started tapping on things. When I finally thumped the power supply, bingo, it reset. It was a bad solder joint in the power supply.

Or possibly a short in the power switch. If you don't speak Indian (Hindi??), you might as well hang up the phone.

might want to make sure the power cord going into the back of the machine is in securely, it may barely be making a connection and a bump would cause a brief disconnect.

It definitely sounds like a PSU issue... if you've got a spare available, try a different PSU or move the Dell PSU to another machine. Do the same with the power cord, as they can get old and weak... it doesn't happen very often, but I've had 2 power cords fail on me like that before. They're cheap

The OP hasn't responded for over 72 hours, so we can only assume he's still on hold with Dell tech support.

Be careful with the suggestion in quotes above. Proprietary system means proprietary power supply which usually means proprietary voltage requirements. The issue DOES sound psu or power switch related and it does sound like something's loose and either breaking the circuit or grounding out. Also, many proprietary computers come with "void the warranty" stickers preventing you from taking the case off. Let Dell decide whether you take the case off or RMA it. Lets be safe in what we do to a system that is still under warranty. Any shops in your town do warranty work for Dell?
