Computer restarts while playing starcraft 2

Hi everyone,

2 weeks ago I put together my girlfriend's computer, and everything went smoothly. However, recently every time she plays starcraft 2 multiplayer, her computer restarts on it's own. She hasn't installed many other games, so she hasn't tested out whether or not this happens with other games.

Her temperatures seem to be fine, and there is nothing else out of the ordinary other than this restarting issue. Her system specs are as follows:

i7 2600k with cm 212+ (no OC yet)
asus z68 pro
gskill 2x4gb ram
intel 510 SSD 120gb
WD 1tb black
corsair 650hx
evga gtx 560 ti

Do you have another PSU you can get your hands on to make sure the 650hx isn't faulty

Ah, I actually don't have a spare psu...I'm going to have her try some more games now that she has some installed. Are there any other possible culprits? Thanks again!

It just happened again in the middle of a starcraft 2 game. the monitor doesn't lose signal, but the computer shuts off, as in the fans stop spinning and everything, and then it turns back on again. hmm...

I had that happen a long time ago. A dying PSU was the culprit in my case. That's what I'd suspect first.

I agree that a dying PSU COULD be the cause, but also, an overheating CPU or GPU could cause the same symptoms.

The CPU temps dong go higher than about 40-44 degrees while playing and the GPU temps don't go higher than 76 degrees while playing. It could very well be the PSU then, but I just wished it wasn't so since it's a brand new corsair hx 650. Thanks again everyone for your input.

Mm you said the temps were fine so thats probably not it .. but SC2 does not have a frame limiter enabled - so my normally stable system tends to lock up on it.

In her Documents\StarCraft II find Variables.txt then add two lines to it:

frameratecap=60
frameratecapglue=30

I believe the top line sets the FPS cap.

GPU would artifact and in my experience the CPU will give you a bluescreen reboot.
Actually shutting off is almost certainly a power issue.

Thank you for the advice everyone. I'll have her try the framerate settings and see if that works. If not, then i suppose its time for a new PSU.
