Everytime I try to stream a video or play a beloved family guy episode, my computer restarts no warning. The screen blinks and its at post again.

Then i get the blah blah blah windows recovered serious error crap

szAppName : Drivers.Display szAppVer : 10DE00F3A22017107D
szModName : nv4_disp.dll szModVer : 6.14.10.7762 Offset : DAA506EA

that is what it was telling me that my video card didnt load something right

I dont think thats the problem though I am still getting like 70 fps on counterstrike benchmark.

any ideas?

Did u install anything recently before the problem? Since u said u have problems when u play videos, maybe it's some conflict with some software. It could maybe be codex related too. Since u can game and stuff fine, I don't think it's hardware issue.

Turn off automatic restart in Windows XP.
Go to control panel - System - Advanced - Under Startup & Recovery click settings and unclick automatic restart.

The exact error that comes up, copy it and maybe paste it in here but also check on google to see for any similar problems. It may be some software conflict but usually the computer should do a critical error restart b/c of a software glitch. At best the small dialog box should pop up and say an error about the specific program and close it.

I was thinking maybr drivers, although they should affect gameplay aswell.

Try the suggestions above.

Do a memory test and check your power supply w/ a multi meter to check for proper levels.

Multi Meter, is a tool used to view current power levels. Find them for 20$ or so at RadioShack. If your power supply is not stable it could cause restarts like that. Put the multi meter to Voltage and it should read 00.0v on the screen before testing. Put the red end to the yellow wire in the 4pin molex connector, then the black to black. It should read 11.9 -12.1v. ALso check the red wire it shoudl read near 5v. Do this if possible while running your heavier programs.

Also does this restart ONLY happen with those software titles? What about a big game or benchmark program? If it only happens with those two programs then I bet its a software issue. But sometimes bad memory or weak power supply can cause weird reboots.

Don't know of a memory test program off the top of my head, maybe someone will chim in and help here.

Fun speculation...

It could be a combination of problems. You have a codec problem that causes your video not to play back properly and send your CPU to 100% - your CPU at full load draws much more power putting thr PSU under strain which can't take it (faulty/poor quality) so it crashes.

A friend had a similiar problem like that which happened after he installed a 9800pro into his emachines 2.66ghz - unfortunately the system was only supplied with a generic 250W. His PC is now a bit fubar-ed and out of action.

Solution to check if it's your PSU - run Prime 95 torture test (it's a freely downloadable program often used as a stability test especially when overclocking PCs as it pushes the CPU to its limit as well as several other parts of your system)

BTW I recommend using Windows Media Player Classic along with a bundle of codecs

You can get WMC bundled with Real Alternative (Alternative to Real Player)
Xp Codec Pack is good and what I'm using

^--- This explains a LOT. No wonder you were crashing/freezing. Bah! Go out and get an Antec 400W or something (depending on your specs) - it'll be much better than that generic 450W.

Edit: Like others have said - do a Prime95 torture test. I'm sure you'll fail it . Or it's possible that your GRAPHICS CARD is drawing a lot of power and making that power supply crash (a not-enough-power problem), so try somethign like 3DMark05.

I had a similar problem with my system...my suggestion is to update the BIOS. I was receiving the same error messages. It was a result of an unsupported CPU. What are the specs on your rig?
