Computer won't boot

I shrunk the partition containing XP, reformatted the remaining space and installed another OS. At this point the system hangs after the post and neither OS will load. First, how do I fix this to at least get back into XP, and then what should I do to get some kind of bootloader menu to select which OS I want to use each time the computer restarts.

(I backed everyting up before I began this process, so I can start from scratch if I have to, but if it's possible to recover the existing installation that would be preferrable)

well, the best way would be to wipe both partitions and redo it. what other OS are you installing with XP?

Boot into recovery console, key in 'fixboot', and reboot and tell us if anything changes.

Second attempt, if that fails, format a floppy drive in a 2000/2003/XP OS (full format, not quick format), put ntldr, ntdetect, and boot.ini from your prior install on it (via BartPE is easiest, or another system if you have one) and let us know what happens.

what about the 99% that no lnger have a floppy anymore?
