Computer WONT POST... HELP!!!

Hi,

My current setup is a Pentium 4 1.6Ghz processer, 2 x 256mb sdram pc133 sticks (512 total), Geforce 4 ti4200, 1 3com NIC, Soundblaster Audigy, 1 30 gig and 1 60 gig (both dma 100 capable). My mother is made by some company called amptron, http://www.amptron.com/html/p4_920LSD.html <--- my actual motherboard. In the bios (already flashed latest bios), the fsb options, etc, are all greyed out. However, on this motherboard you can edit the FSB via the jumpers. When i set the jumpers for FSB of 133MHZ, my monitor doesn't turn on. Thinking this was a hardware problem, i took each and every piece of hardware out, except for the processor and graphics card, still no dice. I put the memory stick in, made sure it would post as 100mhz, still no dice. I'm running in circles hear, anyone able to help?

Have you set it back to default and cleared the cmos?

Hi,

Yup, i tried putting it back to 100mhz, and it booted fine.

And yea, i reseted the cmos by both taking out the lithium battery for 5 minutes w/ all power turned off. And also by reseting via the jumpers, to no success.

Sounds like your P4 1.6 does not want to run at 133FSB. At least not without a voltage kick.

That's a S423 1.6 chip... You won't be able to run this @133bus. I think S423 P4's topped out around 1.8ghz...

You should be able to... then why would the motherboard manufacturer even bother to put a 100/133mhz bus selection as jumpers... wouldn't make sense to put it there if the board didn't offer it.

They made socket 478 willamette p4's as well....This mobo was probably manufactured knowing Intel was going to move towards the northwood "b" chips or 533mhz fsb chip and therefore give the option for the 133fsb....

The way you keep listing your chip I believe it is also a p4 willamette and therefore at 133fsb or 2.13ghz you will never get!!! Check your chip and see...If you have listed 256kb of L2 cache then you have a willamette .18micron chip and not the 512kb L2 cache Northwood P4a .13micron chip...ocing will be poor and for that I am sad.....

Almost any 1.6a with a packing date of anything in 2002 will oc to 2.133ghz from doing it at default to adding up to 1.7v of vcore...

is there anything i can do? like a trick to unlock the cpu or something to get my system running at 133mhz???

nope
apart from voltage increase that MAY get you to 133mhz, but probably not
maybe like 115 is more probable
