Computer won't POST... =(

This isn't the first computer I've built, so this is why I'm so perplexed. Here's the current rig:

MSI K9N Platinum nForce 570u AM2
MSI 7900GT
Enermax ELT500AWT
4200+ AM2
1 GB OCZ DII800

Right now, I can't even get it to POST. There's a sound of a spark when I try to boot it, but nothing happens after that. I have to then unplug and replug in my PSU to get the sound again. I've already swapped out the PSU and the M/B and still get the same results. Any suggestions? Thanks!

Seriously though... do you have access to another (comparable) system to test your parts?

You got a short in that case. Take everything out of the case and put the components on a flat surface and try the boot up w/ just the CPU, 1 stick of RAM, and video card.

But I do think you're right that it's a short. But wouldn't switching out the M/B and the PSU resolve that? Where else can there be a short? not the CPU/GPU/RAM? I guess i could try another M/B?

Is there anything else that can short besides the M/B or PSU? I don't think the video card, CPU or RAM can short. Can it?

Take a Close look at your Power hookups to the board, better yet, pull them, and look at the contacts both in the board, and the contacts of the loom, see if there is any brown scorch marks in either.

what are you setting it on? the m/b might be shorting on your work surface depending on what it is.

I have it on a textbook. Those usually aren't too conductive. There's no metalic font on the cover, or anything like that. It's also on the static wrap that the M/B that comes in. M/B, wrap, textbook, table, is the order.

I finally got it working! It turns out that both the RAM and the M/B were both faulty. Also, When I plugged in the M/B FDD and Molex connector, it would short, so those are no longer plugged in. Thanks for all the help!
