On a server where it needs to come back up ASAP it makes sense to have auto restart enabled. On a PC/workstation auto restart should always be disabled for that very reason.

I'd rather have my PC restart and get back to whatever it was doing rather than sit there with its finger up its proverbial nose.

Of course it (usually) is however it just looks dumbed down especially now. Windows 8 looks to be a flop already.

If only that were true. There are so many electrical things that can go wrong with a circuit that computers can and often do error if the programmer didn't build in some correction mechanism. Just let a clock crystal go bad on a processor, you get all kinds of neat code effects.
