I've been looking for parts for a gaming comp that I want to build for 1,600. I use Newegg.com mostly for parts and am going to be building in a week or 2. Could anyone recommend me parts to make the system as optimal for gaming as possible?

I Just put together a nice gaming system which included an A-top X-Blade Case, 600W PS, Abit KN8 Ultra MB, AMD Ath64 X2 4200+ (Manchester), 2GB Corsair DDR400 (1GBX2) with SONY 16X Super All-Write DVDRW Drive, XFX Geforce 7900 GT (520MHZ) Xtreme 256MB PCI-E video card and Maxtor 300GB HD for around $950 from parts I got at mwave.com. I also added a 20" Viewsonic TFT LCD for $285 and a wireless KB and mouse. It kicks butt on Half life2, Quake3 and Fear. Especially with the 7900GT. People had told me that Half Life2 would sometimes have little sound glitches while playing, but I haven't had any problems at all. Video is always smooth and sound is great. I am sure that you can get about the same from Newegg.com. SLI would probably add another $299 for the video card and about $10 bucks more for the motherboard. Thats about $1544.00. you'll end up having another $56 bucks to buy a new game

To the first bolded point: I'd wait for a crossfire MoBo on this budget. That way you can get a x1900xt for $330 and be able to add a second. Better performance for dollar here, IMO.
Next: I'd get a 3800+ am2 x2 in hopes that it comes down to ~$170. You can always oc it.
Next: He doesn't need a case, so just get a good psu, like a 500w enermax liberty, or a 600w fortron epsilon, or a 500w seasonic s12, or an enhance 0560g. There are other great options, but those are just a few.

Intel Core 2 Duo E6600
965P motherboard
2GB DDR2-667
1GB 7950GX2
NEC ND-3550A

Hard drive(s), capacity is up to you, Seagate preferred (you can definitely fit it/them in your budget). I would NOT go RAID 0, and I would NOT buy Raptors.

Case is up to your preference, I like the Cooler Master Cavalier 3, but the Thermaltake Tsunami is better and you could fit that in your budget.

As for Power Suuply, wattage depends on your desire to OC that C2D. Seasonic and Forton are good.

Hmmm, I like the last one, but everybody else, thanks for you time and effort. I'll build on that configuration, since I already have a case and Monitor, I might be able to throw in a sound card and speakers.
