I downplay the "US flag" thing. This is great news and hopefully, the insurgency fvcks itself now. Time will tell...

Time to come home now.

How will that even slow the insurgency? That's not going to stop the thousands of insurgents across Iraq from continuing to plant roadside bombs, killing American troops, and the ongoing civil war with tens of casualties per day.

"hopefully", the ole "cut off the head and the body dies" theory applies here.

Would have been awsome if this happened two days ago!! 666!!!

Doubtful. Haven't we killed or captured so called leaders before? Where has that taken the situation in Iraq? No effect. In fact, the insurgency has worsened.

When did they actually kill him??? Did they kill him on 6/6/06? If so, how fitting.

So he's really REALLY dead now? He won't suddenly come back to life again in a few weeks or months from now like before?

If he's REALLY dead, then good. But, yeah...You'll have to excuse those of us who have a hard time believing his death, after having heard the same thing before a few times.

He's only a small-medium sized player in all the hubbub going on in Iraq. Good news he's gone though.

I agree. Next week there will be the roughly the same number of people killed in Iraq as this week.

Don't take my word for it, though. Let's all wait and see. You all remember how the insurgency crumbled when we captured Saddam, right? Saddam was a bigger fish than this guy, I think we'd all agree.

Still, it is good news. No denying it. Catching Saddam was good, too.

No doubt, the insurgency doesn't need Zargawi or any other leader...

The presence of the U.S. military is all the fuel it needs.

Zarqawi Scheduled for Martyrdom Link

June 7, 2006: The relationship between terrorist leader Abu Musab al Zarqawi and and the mainline al Qaeda leadership continues to deteriorate. Zarqawi's recent audio messages have not only attacked the U.S. and the Shia-dominated government in Iraq, but also Iran. He's even claiming that the U.S., Iran, and Shia in general, are in cahoots to destroy Islam. He has also called for continued attacks against Shia.

Except for his verbal attacks on the U.S. and the Iraqi government, he is almost totally distanced himself from the central leadership. Other al Qaeda leaders have been trying to down play anti-Iranian and anti-Shia rhetoric, and have been strongly discouraging attacks on civilians.

Given that Zarqawi has become a loose cannon and that his actions are handicapping Al Qaeda's efforts, it seems reasonable to expect that an accident may befall him at some point in the near future. If handled right it can be made to look like he went out in a blaze of glory fighting American troops or that he was foully murdered. Either way, al Qaeda gets rid of a problem and gains another "martyr."

Give that man a cigar, right on the mark.

During the Vietnam War, Senator George Aiken famously suggested we should simply declare victory and pull out.

If Bush was quick-witted, perhaps he'd use Zargawi's death as an occasion to do so. I am not holding my breath. We are engaged in building some pretty extensive and long lasting military bases in Iraq. Somebody expects us to have a military presence there for a long time.

but wait!! weren't about a third of you were saying a couple of months ago that he didn't even exist??
Some crap about being a one legged man or something?
There is also one more gem in a story like this that should not go unnoticed by the liberal masses.

His closest brush may have come in late 2004. Deputy Interior Ministry Maj. Gen. Hussein Kamal said Iraqi security forces caught Al-Zarqawi near the insurgent stronghold of Fallujah but then released him because they didn't realize who he was.

Sometimes people need to be held for indeterminate times and reasons in situations like these.
We need to know who they are and what they been up to.
This is not a conventional war with conventional soldiers. They hide amongst women and children one day and blow the he** out of them the next day.

"There is also one more gem in a story like this that should not go unnoticed by the liberal masses. "

Your story doesn't have anything to do with the USA, unless you believe the Iraqi government is our puppet ? but since you made this comment, I guess you think it's "liberal" to believe in the US Constitution ?

True "conservatives", if there any left, would be even more outraged by the excesses of the current administration than "liberals".
