It?s not only music videos you can buy. No, Apple?s set up to allow you to purchase TV shows for $1.99 apiece. Get Desperate Housewives or four other ABC shows premiering on iTunes at two bucks an ep.
That's crazy. Wonder if apple is going to make anything off of these sales?
Doesn't matter, they will own this market that they created. Now everyoen will try to catch up but won't be able to.
You're probably right. Boy i'm glad i got my 20 shares of apple stock this morning

Who knows how this will turn out financially. I'd like to know what their margins will be on the new ipods, considering they now have a new (seemingly costlier) screen.
The new iPod, featuring a gorgeous 2.5-inch color screen, can display album artwork and photos, as well as play stunning video including music videos, video podcasts, home movies and television shows. The new iPod holds up to 15,000 songs, 25,000 photos or over 150 hours of video and is available in a 30GB model for $299 and a 60GB model for $399, with both models available in stunning white or black designs. From a business standpoint I think this is a great idea. First off, Apple has the distribution infrastructure already in place. No other portable video player is offerring content (Creative, Archos, etc), just hardware. Let's face it, very few people have the technical savy to decode, rip, and then re-encode a DVD to put on to a player, and most people can barely use something like Kazaa, let alone use Bittorrent or newsgroups (the first rule of newsgroups...you don't talk about newsgroups).
With iTunes 6, it's just a click and it automatically syncs to your Ipod with video. Not to mention, the price is fair. If people are willing to pay .99 for a 4 minute song, I think people would be willing to pay 1.99 for a 45 minute TV show (1 hour - commercials).
It's not a huge screen, but to hit the $299 price point, I think they had to make a compromise, and storage probably wasn't it as that would seriously compromise the ability of portable video (who'd want to only carry 2 episodes of something with them?).

Honestly, this is the first iPod that intrigues me. I might actually buy one

I'm gonna stick with my 40gb Photo. The new video features and slightly bigger screen don't warrant the upgrade, IMO. I'll wait till they come out with one with a bigger (wider) screen.
What video formats is the new ipod capable of playing? Is it limited to only the videos that you can purchase from itunes, or can you rip, encode, and transfer ANY video to the player?

These units aren't using flash hard drives right? It's a regular mini hard drive?
