it opened down 5% today, because the street overestimated what apple would make.

I believe because they didn't hit their earnings target.

on a side note, does anyone think the pricing for a tv episode will prevent affect record labels and their demands to increase music downloads up from 99 cents?

I like the move to make TV shows available. I'm just not sure they are worth $2 a pop?

I'm sure there would be a lawsuit but... Someone could theoretically run a video podcast of a full blown show converted to work on the iPod.

Heck maybe legitimate rights owners might do this on their own and simply leave in the commercials.

damn.... i have a feeling they rushed this out. but if it ends up being good, i think $2 a pop is not too bad. I'm not looking to replace dvds, but watch episodes I might miss. Of course, alias is the only show I'd watch, but if other networks jumped on board... it might get interesting.

Looks awesome - can't wait until they integrate video, music and data all in one small nano package.

Also a garage door opener would be cool. Functionality mah peeps, function-al-itee!

It plays .mp4 video files as well. Isn't as simple as encoding an episode, movie, or pron and uploading it to the iPOD?

I wish gurck was still here to take the beating from apple. i can still taste his tears from last time

he would still not like it because it still requires itunes for the most part to function, it's not a "true" DAP. I understand his POV, I just didn't like his bashing. that and I can live w/ the faults of the ipod, nothing's perfect. buy what you like. i'm buyin this... one day. ha

Nah, they can still harp on the fact it doesn't play wmv, wma, ogg, flac, oh and no FM radio. It also doesn't do widescreen formats which would have been awesome.

The bad part with the TV show sales is they'll start hitting the bt and other p2p download sites that's offering TV shows. That won't stop usenet of course. The other bad part is the fact the resolution of these videos are very small and at $1.99 each episode they better offer a steep discount (yeah right) on the DVD if you bought the whole season.

Anyone else see horrendous video podcasts in the future? Which also brings up importing your own encoded shows.

I agree, it would be silly if they didn't allow home video content, but guess what? THEY AREN'T! Where does it say "Use iLife to edit your home movies and send them straight to the new video iPod!!" ?

Buy music videos and TV shows from the iTunes Music Store and sync them to your iPod, or use QuickTime 7 Pro to export your home movies to iTunes for syncing.

OWNED now stfu.

Why are you taking this so personally. STFU? Seriously, what is the matter with you?

I stand correct. I wonder what input formats QT7 will take.

The issue is that so many anti-fanboys always harping on the deficiencies of Apple and it's products that it gets old fast and quite annoying. Half the time they are wrong anyways. And for a company that is considered irrelevent by so many peope, it sure gets a lot of attention doesn't it?

The other thing is that while there are indeed legitimate questions about Apple's products, the anti-fanboys are so full of p!ss and fire that they come off as ranting lunatics and any legitimate points they have are drowned out by noise.

As for QT7, I believe it can take quicktime obviously, avi files, mpeg1, mpeg2, h.264 and not sure what else. I'd have to agree quicktime's interface sucks. I like BSPlayer myself. If you want a relatively cheap tool for encoding video you can check out Procoder Express. Though it does require the installation of Quicktime and Divx to encode in those formats.

And for the self encoded or non ITMS downloaded videos, it was pretty obvious this was going to be supported. ITunes has included support for video podcast since at least version 4.9. These are of course not going to be governed by Fairplay so it stands to reason that you can import pretty much any video and play it so long as it's done through the iTunes software. Or at least until they come up with a hacked version of software to bypass iTunes when loading songs (and now videos) on the iPods.

heh, w/ ppl complaining a 2.5" screen is too small for video, you think they'd slap it on the nano? heh.

one more thing though... with these huge downloads... that's gunna be costly. and what about pausing downloads... or if a connection is lost somewhere inbetween... what happens then?

lol, but it opens the doors for encoding your pr0n collection

I've already done some testing concerning this type of video clip and Itunes 6.

.mov and .mpg files easily go into your Itunes Library (accessible from the new Videos tab in Itunes). It should then be a quick sync to your Ipod and all of your videos should come over.
