I hope I don't get flamed for this. One of my coworker's friends works for 3dfx tech support and they say that they are going out of business soon. They have been working with the lights off in their building to save money. They are having buyers come in to look at their building to purchase it. The building is in Richardson, Texas. I have heard that there were just a lot of bad business decisions that lead to this. Well, everyone have fun with this.

The building your talking about just had Cisco move into half of it. As for working with the lights out, I don't know about that. I've driven by and seen lights on all sides of the building. I'll drive by later today, but I hardly think 3dfx is going to close. They would sell their subsidiaries before they did that...

Be careful driving up there today. The Snow/Ice mixture just hit Denton about 15 Minutes ago. All I know is my source says that they have been working with the lights off. It may be just the help desk group that has the lights off. I don't know since I haven't been there.

My friends neighbors dog told me some stuff about hardware's sex life too. Comeon, get a reliable source, Public companies don't go out of business like that, it's much more public and usually involves lots of bankruptcy for years before they shut their doors.

Hardware, lostnthenet can't be you, he has grammer and spelling that is reasonable.

Yeah, well my uncle's, nephew's, mom's, father's, step son-in-law has a cousin who has a friend that knows a secretary that works at 3dfx and the secretary said that 3dfx is not ordering any more sticky notes because they don't have any money. 3dfx is dead.

Working witht the lights off? Since all major corporations like that pay a flat rate for electricity (not metered, like homes are), this makes no sense.

Wingznut PEZ, Large power users are metered by two methods simultaneously. They are charged a KW hr. rate just like small users but are also charged at a demand rate based on the peak draw each month sustained for a fifteen minute period. Most large users have a computerized power management system that sheds loads in accordance with a set of criteria in order to lower the peak demand and thus the demand charge. The Honeywell system in my office is programmed to start shedding at a demand of 480Kw for example.

Good info, dkozloski. I wonder if that differs between utility companies. Because I'm certain that the large corporations in my area pay a flat rate.

Either way, working with the lights off wouldn't make sense.

When I read this thread I would have bet money that Hardware started it.
Of course, he wouldn't have included the "rumor:" part.

Well, I decided that I would add the rumor part just to cover myself. I don't wanna get a bad name on these boards.

If Hardware had posted this thread, there'd be a big ***CONFIRMED*** stamped across the title right now.

I work with the lights off in my office. Flourescent lights screw with my eyes when looking at a monitor, so I just use a small desk lamp.

That's ok lostnthenet, rumors are rumors, nothing wrong with throwing them around.

Hardware is very very ANTI-3dfx, anything good about nVidia or bad about 3dfx gets posted in all caps with bold (and very bad grammer) and lots of ****CONFIRMED**** type junk..when it fact it could be anything from a rumor he heard at some pro-nvidia site or a random though he had that "would be cool if" and he decided to post it as hard fact.

There isn't anything wrong with throwing rumors around as long as you state that they are just that, and don't try to pass them off as fact.
