Confused with 12v rails.....

I Have A Codegen 400W With Two Rails
+12v1 @ 10a
+12v2 @ 14a
but my videocard i have not installed yet says it needs 22 amps..
so can it work or i will have to buy a new power supply for my videocard
it is a hd5450 btw.

Your video card will say how many AMPs it requires on the +12v rail. Generally speaking, you should go with a reputable brand power supply with one rail and 30+ amps on that rail.

To answer your question: your power supply does not deliver enough amps. However, if you plug two PCI-E adapters (assuming your power supply has two) into the video card, and both of those come from different rails (read the manual) that would be 24 amps ... close ... but too close.

A Corsair CX500 is cheap and would work for you, just to give you an example of what you need to look for next time.

It's a Codegen, so they probably lied and it's most likely a single rail unit with a 20A rectifier. Does it have 2 seperate groups of 12V wires going to the PCB, and does it have any shunts connected to those groups? At best it might have 2 rectifiers in parallel for the 12V which would still make it a single rail unit but it would increase efficiency. A 5450 hardly pulls anything, but Codegen does not make very quality PSU's, so I would recommend getting a decent replacement if you want the setup to be reliable, and for output ripple to be low.

What are the specs of the rest of your computer?

Oh I had those same specs in an old Gateway machine. That thing hardly pulls any power, you don't need a 500W PSU for that setup and I can assure you that you don't need 22A on the 12V for that system to run. A high quality 300W PSU could run that, honestly and have power to spare... You could get this and call it a day: http://www.newegg.com/Product/Produc...82E16817151085

Okay that thing u sent me on newegg is +12v1 and +12v2 is 17a will that work and 280w is the total of that?so i can buy that and the card put in and im good to go?

Yes that PSU actually has a single rail capable of ~25A. Your system will never pull more than 175W (including inefficiency) as it is, and that is a well built PSU so you would be good to go

Okay im going to get the CX500 because it is 40 Euros right now but usually it is 60 Euros So That And The HD 5450.

CX430 would be easily enough for your PC, but if the CX500 is less expensive, go for that one.

Okay The CX430 Has 28 Amps I Think And That Should Be Better And If I Want To Upgrade I Think i can upgrade to a hd6670 it needs 17a and 400w psu for right now im going to get the cx430 and the hd5450
