Thank you and agree.....but if people like jpeyton want to push me on the subject, I'll simply flip to the ban all side. Doesn't matter to me at all. Right now, I'm against all assault weapons but I support the right to bear an arm (not any arm that you may "want").
That's fine. The anti-gun lobby is largely unorganized and poorly funded, plus they have the attention span of 2 weeks (until the bandwagon ride stops).

The last golden age for the anti-gun lobby was in 1993/1994, when the Democrats controlled the executive and both houses on Congress. Right now Democrats are 33 seat short in the House, and that isn't changing for 2 years.

Keep in mind, I'm a Democrat, two time Obama voter, and very liberal on most social issues. But we have a fundamental disconnect when it comes to appropriating blame for a heinous act.

Hold on to that, the tide of popular opinion is changing more by the day.

Rampage shootings will continue and with every one more of the public sides with banning.

But enjoy stroking your assault weapon now, sooner or later your going to have to give it up.

Keep in mind that I support the right to bear an arm but I DO NOT support the right to bear an all out assault rifle. I also support the fact that people have a right to life far more than a right to a gun in a non defense situation (i.e. people have a right to defend themselves and kill if needed to save their own or other's life).

I didn't report or link anything. We will know soon enough if he was using a rifle or if it in the car. I suspect given the carnage he did in fact use a semi auto rifle with .223
As I said, the story you quoted.

Maybe the rifle was used I don't know, I just know every other news site still say the rifle was in the car. Even another Yahoo news story that say the rifle was used includes a video saying it was in the car. Horrible reporting by Yahoo either way because their story makes a point to say how both hand guns are capable of using a extended 30 round magazines. When there has been zero facts to suggest such a magazine was even. Good chance not since the guns were legal and mags over 10 shots is already illegal in Connecticut.

Exactly

You simply don't need an AR to protect yourself. I have a glock 21 and a couple shotguns, I used to CC in California due to a job transporting gems and jewelry.

I also am fine with gun ownership, but assault weapons need to go.

Obama shed fake tears during the conference to gain sympathy and will use it to push for anti-gun laws and stricter government control. I say this as an Obama supporter, his emotions came off as extremely phony to me.

I agree with the right wingers on this one, gun control isn't the answer. What we need is a better system in place to identify people with mental instability and make sure they do not have weapons accessible to them.

Good let's make that national with no grandfathering then I think the issue would be adequately addressed.

State bans are stupid

Why exactly do you think that a state ban is stupid but a national ban is "smart"? How well has that worked for most of the other things that we have banned but are readily made/available in the rest of the world and absurdly profitable to smuggle into the country?

Keep in mind that the Virginia Tech massacre, the largest in US history, involved no assault weapons.

The legislation you're proposing targets 2% of gun crime, 0.5% of firearms-related homicide, and was deemed ineffective by the DOJ.

So? Would you like me to ask for an all out ban? You seem to be in the all or nothing crowd. I've given my opinion on this subject (for years) and aren't about to change for some guy that just can't live with regular arms alone....must have and cuddle the assault rifles. Sorry, but I don't agree.

For you, firearms may simply be for defense. For others, they are a form of recreation or sport, or used for hunting, or tools for their job, or something they collect, or build. The AR platform is very popular in target shooting competitions.

I am an all or nothing crowd. It's not so much about you or me winning, as much as it is about you struggling the maximum amount for every inch of ground you gain.

Find another sport then.

You are correct I did quote the post with that story, I was thinking you were saying I linked it.

I don't know which guns he used vs were in the car. It's possible he used the handguns and not the rifle I don't know.

What the fuck is an assault weapon? I'm damn sure I can "assault" your ass with a tiny little Ruger LCR or a baseball bat.

And if you're talking about "assault rifles", they're already under a de facto ban. Unless you're filthy rich, a class 3 dealer, or bought them before the 1986 Hughes Amendment, you cannot own an assault rifle. Period.

Didn't the ban expire in 2004 and has not been renewed?

An "assault rifle" is a selective fire weapon. The 1994 ban did not deal with select fire weapons, which were already heavily regulated by the 1934 NFA and the 1986 FOPA (specifically the Hughes Amendment). The 1994 ban dealt only with semi-automatic rifles, pistols and shotguns.

When did proper terminology and definitions become "doubling down on stupid"?

It's like arguing with stupidity. Regardless of fact, logic, or reasoning - it's stupid to continue to try and explain things

My point for the stupid dopey retard still stands - he has 0 clue what an assault rifle is

Bring back the 1994 ban that ought to cover it. I think they banned 19 models and certain features.
