Connecting Dreamcast to Computer

How would I connect my Dreamcast to my computer and be able to play it? I figured that I would get an s video cable and a tv tuner card in order to play it on my computer, but I am not too sure and I don't want to spend alot of money to do this. =)

I made sure that my computer met the requirements of the tv tuner card.

I would recommend against doing this. All TV tuner cards I have used have had a delay, so you would have about 200ms between controller actions and seeing them on the screen. The best solution is to have a monitor which can accept input from the dreamcast.

Also, TigerDirect doesn't have a good reputation with rebates and customer service, so... be warned.

look for a vga convertor on ebay, they usually run about $15-20 shipped

I think the Dreamcast has good native vga support...so you should be able to pick up the right adapter made for it.

I have hooked up both a SNES and a dreamcast to my Hauppuagge win-TV theatre in the past and there wasn't any noticeable lag. Make sure to use an S-vid as you will want the best possible picture quality as you will either playing in a window or full-screening and thus stretching the video input.

I know its probably more than you want to spend but I use a Viewsonic N4 external TV tuner and connect my sons PS2 and Gamecube console to it via svideo. You dont even need to have your PC on to use it but it does have a VGA passthru in case you want to use your pc at the same time. I also use a more expensive and smaller one from AverTV (I forget the model). My son uses the Viewsonic one on a Dell 1905 LCD screen and a set of Harmon Kardon 2.1 speakers. We got rid of his old 19" tv to save some room. The games and TV look great. And no PC!

dreamcast through a vga box looks much much better than on a tv.

Dreamcast has native VGA support. You just need to buy VGA adaptor for like $15 or so. Makes a HUGE difference in picture quality. Definitely recommended.

I sell the VGA box and cable for DC. Since DC supports VGA natively for most games, they look great. I also have generic vga boxes for any component or rca video source for stuff like ps2/xbox/etc
