connection slowdown driving me nuts

Ok, here is the problem that I am having: I am running a cable modem into a wireless router and then out into 4 computers in my apartment. Only one of the computers is on the wireless. When my roommates turn their computers on and leave them on for a while the network speed drops considerably. Here is an example: I can just have my computer on, or just after a reboot of the router, and I can go to pcpitstop.com and use their network connection tester and get on average around 2200 Kb/s. After the router has been running for awhile it drops a lot. I am talking about speeds ranging from 50-200 Kb/s. I know that routers slow down connections some, but why is the connection slowing down so much? Here is the setup that I am using, all 4 computers are running win2k. I have them all set up the same way (I did all the networking). The one computer that is on the wireless is very close to the hub, about 10 feet away through one wall, so it always has a 100% signal on the receiving end. The modem and router are both D-Link products. I am not sure if there is any other info that is needed about the setup, the only other thing might be that the connection into the router is controlled by mac address and ip. Can anyone help me troubleshoot this because it is extremley annoying. Thanks

Here are a couple of things to try. I had similar problems but I'm not sure which remedy fixed it.

1. Remove/disable QOS packet scheduler in the NIC's properties on each machine.
2. Upgrade to the latest firmware for your router.
3. Report to your Cable/DSL provider that your signal is degrading. Sometimes they can send an updated config to your modem that fixes degredation issues.

Where is the QOS packet scheduler in win2k?

It may not be loaded by default in 2K. I can't remember, but if it is, it would be in the property sheet for Local Area Connection under Control Panel -> 'Network and Dialup Connections'. It's the same place that you change TCP/IP properties.

Ok since your on a wireless router most likely the manufacture of it has released firmware that may resolve the issue, check there webiste and flash it with different firmware (which is done within browser, no dos needed). I also notice you are using pcpitstop.com to test it, pcpitstop doesnt test LAN it tests the acual internet speed (but shows it in kilobits not kilobytes, there illistrations of Kb/s is incorrect, if you read it tells you its expressed in kilobits), So it is possible that isp is having problems at peak times, or maybe your room mate is a bandwidth hog and maxing out upload or download all the time.
