ToBeMe, you have hit on the exact reason last year's election turned into the circus that it did. The two major candidates were so similar on so many different levels, that there was never any clearly better choice for the job. Gore has no personality, and turned off voters with his holier than thou attitude, Bush comes off like an idiot and turned off voters who felt he was a puppet of the party. Both candidates came from political families, so there was a great deal of mistrust of them, since neither can really claim to have been "one of us". When it came down to it, most voters went with the party line rather than voting for the best candidate, since neither candidate really could be called the best man for the job. Even Nader could never really be considered a better man for the position, since the depth of his experience all involves consumer advocacy, with no international experience, and no experience in the backrooms and boardrooms where the real deals are made. Without a true leader as a candidate, how do you choose who should lead this country?

Dojobi-

Where do you work? I am just curious. As far as his intellect, I was not insinuating that he was not smarter than the average Joe. I think he is. I think he has the requisite knowledge to make the decisions facing this country, and if he doesn't, to surround himself with the people who do have the needed knowledge.

If grades are not an indication of intelligence (which I happen to agree with you on, I was jsut curous what his grades were), then what basis do you base your judgement on? Are your monthly meetings involved enuf to accurately gauge his intelligence? Has something he has done during his Presidency signalled that his intelligence is sub-standard? Not that this is the subject of this thread, but seeing as nobody actually responded to my comments on the topic, I had to talk about SOMETHING!

Well I don't want to get too specific.. but I'll give you this much.. I'm an IT person on the White House Campus...

I honestly do not think the GW is substandard... I think he is standard.. maybe even a bit above standard... but compare him to Clinton who while beinf immoral was absolutely jaw dropping brilliant.

Bush may surround himself with fantastic people... but when he places that call to Arafat or Castro or whoever... it's him talking and noone else... and it's there when we need a truly brilliant, charasmatic, presonable person to be in that oval office.

<< Great sense of humor... incredibly friendly and warm... >>

Seems to be 2/3rds of the definition you just gave. At any rate, you are the one who has contact with him, you probably know better than me. I just judge him on what he is doing now.. and I have yet to see him make a mistake... and what some people call mistakes are usually differences in opinions (in the political world).

BTW: Have you noticed how we have been able to have a spritied, even enjoyable, conversation here, and I have yet to even mention your sexual persuasion? Imagine that, and I am a conservative!

Hey! You're right... and I haven't called you a bigotted nazi homophobic thug yet... wow..

No but seriously... I'm actually not that uncomfortable with Bush now that we have a democratic controlled senate. He is making mistakes in my opinion... but like you said the determination of these as mistakes is very much politically biased. If we had say 6-7 more strong democrats in the senate... and a couple more in the house... I might even have voted for Bush over Gore for the sake of balance.. wow... did I just say that?

<< Raspewtin:

An extreme view of homosexual sex is discrimination, hatred, andger, etc.

Simply considering it a sin - the same as heterosexual sex outside marriage, is not extreme. In fact, it should be completely meaningless to anyone who doesn't believe the same way.

What do you care what I think is a "sin"?
>>

Thank you, I wasn't around to respond...

<< << Homosexuality as a sin is not an extreme view >>

lol. i'd love to hear what you consider an extreme view of homosexuality.
>>

That's it's completely normal

Doboji -

advocate - how can you spew such propaganda without laughing at yourself?

Two answers for that one:

1) Why is it when conservatives express opinions that those opinions are always classified as propaganda?
2) The same way you do.

How on EARTH did you come up with that?... do you realize you just called all the poor a bunch of dummies who can't think for themselves... have you any idea how insulting and stupid that comment is? Disturbing!

No, the poor are merely misled, through no fault of their own. You are the one who chose the word "dummies" - you are pretty good at name calling though... very typical for a liberal. Using names instead of arguing points intelligently.

3 words to prove my argument - Shiela Jackson Lee... anyone from Houston will understand that reference. Alexander Hamilton was the first one to warn about this trend in voting. Read The Federalist #9.

No (Bush) he's not a moron... he's a normal guy. Normal guy president = dumb as dog doo doo in presidential standards...

Now that is a brilliant statement. I can't believe that I'm attempting to engage in serious political discourse with someone that uses the phrase "dumb as dog doo doo." That is also another example of name calling. How about attacking his policies not his IQ, since real liberals don't believe in "racially-biased" IQ tests anyway.
