Considering moving to Australia ...

Is'nt Austrailia almost impossible to get a residence visa? I thought you needed like 1 million in the bank or something? Well your married to one so it's no thang. But they don't want people from Malasia floating over to them so they have very tight anti-immigration laws unlike the US.

I wouldn't move to Australia just to escape my mountain of debt ... it's almost impossible that I'd have it all paid off before we moved. That's why I'd still keep my local accounts open and with the advent of internet banking and ACH payments I can make timely cc payments via the internet in 1 business day.

If you have no useful qualifications/skills or you don't have a large amount of capital then yeah it is pretty hard. I doubt RossMan is going to have trouble getting a residence visa if he's married to an Australian citizen. Is this a permanent move? Or a temporary one, cos it's going to be one hell of a change.

Go for it Australia is really great I visited for 6 months years ago (90') and I had loads of fuun & meet a lot of interesting people.

I would most likely seek work in an international department of a major Australian bank since that's where my skillset is (besides Hot Deals, of course). If I didn't have any luck in that sector maybe I could squeeze my foot into entry level tech support, who knows. It would have to be enough $ to continue paying down my US debt, afford rent/food/utilities, spending money and RossWife would be working also adding to the household income. Initially this would be a temporary move for a few years.

Carbonyl - I know that New Zealand will welcome you with open arms if you have $$$$ I don't think Australia is as greedy. RossWIFE being an Aussie citizen should make it infitinitely easier for RossMAN to enter the land of kangaroo.

I do envy you though. I wanted to move to NZ since about 18 years old (31 now) but my wife says I'm crazy (she's right) and I have 7 siblings along with parents and all the family associated with it I'd be leaving behind. Good to do this young and liquid like you are now

Rossman, entry level tech or tech in general isn't so hot in Australia, too many techs not enough jobs. But the banking side of things should be better.
